Happy Friday the Earth community! We are thrilled to share with you the latest updates for ArcGIS Earth, on both desktop and mobile. The Desktop 2.2 and Mobile 2.1 (Android and iOS) were fully rolled out last week on May 23rd. Below are some highlights:

  • 3D tiles - ArcGIS Earth now supports consuming OGC 3D tiles data, including 3D models (.b3dm+.json) and 3D tiles archive format (.3tz), for visualizing continuous meshes or discrete 3D objects.
  • App link - ArcGIS Earth can be launched and further integrated with other apps via a universal app link, with optional parameters. The base URL is https://earth.arcgis.app/.

Desktop specific updates:

  • Realistic Star Background – NASA realistic stars background now replaces the generic space background.
  • WGS 1984 basemaps - When users change the ArcGIS Earth spatial reference from Web Mercator to WGS84, the application will automatically source the associated WGS84 basemaps from ArcGIS Online within the basemap gallery.
  • Export bookmarks to video - In just a few clicks, you can now export your bookmark groups to MP4.
      · Convert bookmarks to ArcGIS Earth movie projects
  • ArcGIS Earth Movie enhancements
      · New toolbar options have been added to improve the overall user experience when working with blocks and tracks.
      · New and unique narrative possibilities come with three added marker types: GIF, Video, and Billboard.
      · In-app voice-over is now supported. Click the record button in the audio track to begin narrating your video in real time.
      · Three new export modes have been added to give you more control over processing time and output quality: Efficiency, Balanced, and Quality.

Mobile specific updates:

  • OGC GeoPackage support - new data format added to mobile app in this release, including consuming the data from local directory and downloading from a portal item.
  • Drawings with attachment - users can now attach and update pictures to a drawing feature.
  • Web scene Bookmark - bookmark/slides in a web scene can be viewed and played easily on the go.
