Trying to upgrade to ArcGIS 10.4.1 on Windows 10, MacBook Pro bootcamp (mid 2012). Everything went smoothly, until I attempted to open ArcGIS Map, whereby I received the following message: "The application was unable to start correctly (0xc000007b). Any ideas???

Are you accessing a standalone license for ArcMap?

Yes, it is for a 'single' use.

I've rebooted, but it did not help.

Check if the Microsoft .NET framework is updated. Next, try opening the ArcMap as an administrator.

You might need to reset the ArcGIS Application profile. See https://community.esri.com/docs/DOC-2121?sr=search&searchId=d3134a9f-e898-4d1a-8d59-90a8e1ae9d61&sea...

Thank you for the suggestions.

I've tried to 'open as administrator', and I receive the same message.

Also, I checked and my Microsoft.NET<http://microsoft.net> framework is installed and up to date.

I was not exactly able to reset the application profile. I'm using Windows 10 and the instructions do not seem to quite apply/line up.

I should note that on this same laptop and version of Windows 10 I was able to run ArcMap 10.3. The problem only occurred when I tried to update to ArcMap 10.4.1.

Perhaps I should try to re-install the software? If so, will my single use license still work?

Thanks again.

I was not exactly able to reset the application profile. I'm using Windows 10 and the instructions do not seem to quite apply/line up.

Those instructions should work with all versions of Windows. Did you have problems getting to the folder? Easiest way is hold the "windows" key down while typing E, this will open the Windows Explorer file browser. Type %APPDATA% (with the percent characters) in the path box and you're there.

Paul - by chance have you installed ArcGIS Earth 1.0 Beta on the system before installing 10.4.x?  If so, please see http://support.esri.com/en/knowledgebase/techarticles/detail/46001

Also, you can run the ArcGIS Earth Repair Utility referenced at http://support.esri.com/technical-article/000012677

Thanks, Robert.

Yes, I had indeed installed ArcGIS Earth 1.0 Beta before installing 10.4.1.

I've just run the repair utility, but it did not work. I've also now uninstalled ArcGIS Earth, but I still receive the same error. And, I am also not able to open Arc Manager or any of the programs.

Okay - more troubleshooting items to try:

Rename ESRI to ESRI_old C:\Users\Userprofile\AppData\Roaming

Attempt to start ArcMap - does the error persist?

Reinstall the software but with the REPAIR option instead.

Does the error persist?

Thanks for the replies and options.

Actually, for some odd reason there is no 'desktop10.4' folder (under C:\Users\Userprofile\AppData\Roaming), only the old 'desktop10.3' folder (created last year).

But, on my desktop PC where 10.4 was loaded correctly, the 10.4 folder (and files) are is present. Is this some odd change of configuration of 10.4? Or, an installation problem when 10.3 is already resident?
