Displaying only selected fields in serial chart.

Is there a way to use some kind of category selector to select custom series (fields in the table) for a serial chart?

We have a water sample service that measures the concentration of dozens of different analytes that can be displayed in series using Categories From Features on a serial chart. We use category and date selectors to filter the chart for a single water source but we would also like to be able to prompt a user for only those analyte concentrations they want to see values for. The ideal method would be prompting the user for the fields they want to see displayed on the chart.

The idea would be that a user could select "Copper" and/or "Aluminum" and see a serial chart displaying the values for just those fields.

One workaround we're using is allowing the user to click off the analyte values they don't want to see using the serial chart Legend. This is a functional workaround but could offer more customization. The legend labels can be customized but they can't be turned off by default.
