Hi!

I would like to know how to do mass water seem like Rotterdam City as link below. I saw in facebook just type "_water" in the layer name. I have tried to type "_water" at the terrain layer name and export to 3ws but it's not work.

Please help me how to do it.

Thanks

Hi there,

I'm interested in replicating the Rotterdam water effect as well. When and where will you be publishing the documents?

Thanks.

Hi
The water effects can be done in this manner:

In ArcMap, create a shapefile(s) tracing the edges of the body of water you wish to animate. (be sure you set the projection exactly as the CityEngine project you're importing into)
Once you import(drag) it into your project scene, right click the shapefile layer in the scene window and then select "objects in the same layer"  and then name it in the Inspector Name line "Name__water"
Be sure to use 2 underscores before "water"

Align the shapes slightly above your terrain, & export to web scene & you will see the animated water.

Hi all,

I'm having difficulty with this water effect as well. I've imported my shapefile with the correct projection/coordinates and used the dual underscore and am still having problems. What are some other possible solutions?

Also, why do I lose a lot of image quality on my terrain (see pic)?

Hi,

check :
- terrain layers' U- and V-subdivisions
- in the export settings, in the Misc tab, check or uncheck the 'simplify terrain' option. [Simplifying the terrain usually takes a long time, but produces a lighter terrain mesh than the full grid.]
- in the 2nd window of the webScene exporter, check the texture size settings.

ok so far ?

Hi Matthias,

I gave up on this and revisited it a few months later. It worked! Thanks for your help! I have no idea what the problem was, maybe it just needed some time?

Cheers,

Nathan
