Integrate 3D into an existing GIS infrastructure.

Actually, I have a question about the GIS infrastructure in relation with 3D.
The question is the following:

If we do have an usual GIS infrastructure, and we decide to do a 3D integration to this infrastructure,
What would be the components that we possibly could add to the infrastructure (Ref. attached file) - hardware side?
Do we require additional separate servers to run 3D applications? 3D data?

We're working on adding 3d functionalities to ArcGIS and ArcGIS server, for around summer 2014.

From my point of view, those do not need specific new 3d hardware to run at all.

I'm not sure about the details, but I think a standard setup should do fine. Though since it's not yet done, I don't have more info available.
