How are employees apportioned within a custom geography in Business Analyst?

Hi,

For the Business Summary reports on Business Analyst, how is the number of employees within a custom-defined geography apportioned? And how well does this reflect land use? E.g. if I draw a boundary around a downtown area full of offices and get a high concentration of workers, is that based on the office buildings? The blocks they're on? The census tracts they're in?

Thanks,

Lee

Hi Lee!

Here's a methodology statement that discusses more about where the Business Summary data comes from and how it works:

Business Data—Esri Demographics | Documentation

Direct link to the Methodology PDF:

We also have documentation that discusses how data apportionment works with demographic data and the GeoEnrichment service (which is used by Business Analyst Online), which is especially important when working with non-standard geographies:

Data apportionment—ArcGIS REST API: GeoEnrichment Service | ArcGIS for Developers

Hope this helps!
