I am working on a project now that could potentially need to have a large number of map layers added.
Not all layers will be visible at the same time and will turn on/off based on different user selections.

My question is, is there a limit on the number of layers that can be added to a map? Does the number of layers added affect performance?

Thanks!

I remember seeing a post where a user ran into the maximum number of layers (around 20 or so) that could be added to a map, but I haven't been able to find the thread.

No, there is no limit on the number of layers that be added to the map.

Yes, but not much.  What could affect performance if you have a lot of feature layers, especially with lots of highly detailed polygons.

Also, if you are pulling data from multiple large datasets, it could take a while (ranging a few seconds to a minute) to see them. Users may not know what is going on and are confused because nothing is happening.
