line intersect with polygon

hello.

I m trying to intersect/overlay contourlines with a polygon. I m dont know which tool to use. The intersection tool seems to not only take the lines that intersect with the polygon but all of them. the idea is to have the polygon divided into different groups of altitudes (contourlines).

any recommendation?

Hello Messy,

It looks like you were on the right track, but need to convert your contour lines to polygons so that the Intersect tool's output will yield the desired polygons.  The lines can be converted to a polygon using the Feature to Polygon tool in Data Management Tools > Features toolset. Please note that the contour lines must be enclosed, so you may need to edit your data to achieve the desired effect.

hmm, i am really sorry, but it doesnt work. i cant find the tool features to polygon, its not in the data management tools. any help for that? and once i do have a polygon, i can use the intersect tool? will that create classes when i intersect the contour lines with the outlines of the glacier i have?
