Hi

I have a DEM and an aerial image, which i would like to display in Arcscene. How can I add the elevation information to the aerial image?

Hi James,

Add both the DEM and the image to ArcScene, set the height parameters you want for the DEM and then open the properties for the image. On "Obtain heights for layer from surface" choose the DEM. Your image will be "draped" on the DEM.

Have a look at: http://webhelp.esri.com/arcgisdesktop/9.3/index.cfm?TopicName=Displaying_2D_features_in_ArcScene

Thanks for this info. I'm interested in this topic as well. I'm having a problem with my aerial image when I add it to ArcScene. When I add the image it becomes very pixelated. The quality of the imagery changes and looks terrible. However, in ArcMap the imagery is beautiful, great quality. Any help would be great. Thanks.

ArcScene loads all data into memory, and its default settings for rendering imagery is optimized to provide for relatively fast navigation, pan, and zoom functionality. The quality of the imagery can be controlled by adjusting the 'Quality enhancement for raster images' slider in the Layer Properties > Rendering tab.

However, if you are working with fairly large imagery, it would be best to consider setting up your 3D document in ArcGlobe, which features a much more robust support for larger datasets. Check out this article:
