Hi all..:)

I would like to convert Lidar ASCII data set of a river alignment to become Raster data set. It is understood we should use ASCII to Raster in conversion tool. But why, every time I use this, error occured. As a information when I browsed the file, I cannot browse in *.txt but *.asc. Is that due to type of file ASCII in *.asc.? or should I change the character of those data first, prior to converting to Raster? ( Note : It tells type of error is "010067: Error in executing grid expression")

Best Regards and cheers,
Roy

ASCII to raster is not a proper tool to import LIDAR ASCII data.
LAS is much better format for storing LIDAR data. You can convert your files using tool from http://www.cs.unc.edu/~isenburg/lastools/

If you have v10.0 and 3D Analyst you can try this sequence:
- use ASCII 3D to Feature Class or LAS to Multipoint to import measurement to Multipoint geodatabase feature class
- create Terrain based on imported points (and riverbank if you have ones)
- export raster from Terrain dataset.

If you have v10.1 on with at least Standard license or 3D Analyst you can use new LAS dataset in geodatabase.
But you need to convert ASCII to LAS format first.
