I feel like I am missing something regards to the symbology of scene layer packages. I am unable to change the symbology of created 3D object scene layer using unique values in Pro and Portal. The reason being is that all of the unique values for the building type field have been lost. Yet retained in the pop-up.

I have created a 3D multipatch layer of buildings, and we want to visualise the building types using symbolise by unique values. If I set the symbology to the 3D multipatch layer, then, create the scene layer package using the Create 3D Object Scene Layer Content tool. The symbology is retained accurately however, if I want to change the symbology later, the attribution is lost.

I believe I read that a 3D Object Scene Layer can retain a feature layer to allow for editing etc. Is there some step I am missing to retain attribution in order to change the symbology later?

Hi,

This topic describes the capabilities of a scene layer with an associated feature layer

https://pro.arcgis.com/en/pro-app/latest/help/mapping/layer-properties/what-is-a-scene-layer-with-as...

This can be done using the Share as web scene layer workflow or share as web scene workflow

https://pro.arcgis.com/en/pro-app/latest/help/sharing/overview/web-scene-layer.htm

thanks,

Andrew

Is what is described in the Note section of the following link what you are referring to?

That's exactly it thank you!
Then, a follow up question, how can I associate a scene layer with a feature layer? Is this done automatically using the source multipatch layer in the same Pro Project? Or is it simply implying you have to recreate the scene layer package from the "updated" source feature layer everytime you want to update the symbology or other attribute based changes?

Not sure, but recreating would be a certainty
