I have some troubles trying to insert vertical geological sections in ArcScene. 3D analyst seems to be lacking 3D georeferencing that would solve many problems.

I know this manipulation is feasible as past colleagues made it possible by georeferencing, in 2D, two points corresponding to the surface and then rotating the shapefile (after editing) using MicroStation. The result is vertical polygons in 3D (not sure how it's handled in ArcScene as this is 3D, not 2.5D).

I would like to do this using ArcGIS only. Preferably, I would like to digitalize my raster section in 2D then rotate the shapefile instead of the opposite. Anyone have any clue how to do this? Hope I gave enough info...

Just a quick update to specify that these rotations are quite easily made using MicroStation (even SE version).
The easiest way to digitize smoothed lines in ArcScene is to first create them in ArcMap, all along the same straight XY line (in any given direction). This is like using ArcMap with a XZ or YZ instead of a XY plane. After exporting in .dxf format both the XY line and the digitized polylines, rotations can be made in MicroStation using the "rotate" tool and orthogonal lines drawn inside MS. Then, you can import the tilted lines, in .dgn format, in ArcScene.
If anyone has better options to digitize smooth lines in 3D, please help me as this the only way I've found. While it is relatively easy, it is still time consuming and I would like a way to do this directly in 3D Analyst...

Thanks,
Christian

This is possible programmatically with ArcObjects.  There are also 3rd party plugins for ArcGIS; CrossView for ArcGIS: http://www.aprimesoftware.com/ ($500).  It works pretty good and supports boreholes, etc.  If you want to step it up a notch you could try Target for ArcGIS by Geosoft (http://www.geosoft.com/pinfo/software/targetarcgis/index.asp) which is around $5000. A-Prime software offers a free trial for Cross View and the last time ii spoke with a Geosoft rep they were offering me a free trial as well but I believe Geosoft does that on individual basis.
