Hi,

I am trying to create a scene that has a fisheye lens type distortion, like in a scene in the movie Inception or in the Here & There NYC map here: http://berglondon.com/projects/hat/

I was just wondering if it is possible in ArcScene or ArcGlobe to replicate this style of map/projection?  From googling, someone attempted it using Silverlight 3...

Thanks,

Garret

Not possible with 3D Analyst.  3D Analyst may serve well as the initial step to get all the building footprints and extrude them to proper heights then export the whole thing to Collada and finish the detailed 3D work in another tool such as SketchUp. BTW the poster is a very nice piece of work. I would not call it a fish-eye lens effect though, its more like a folded / inverted projection.  Personally I would try SketchUp and then photoshop or some other image processing tool to try to apply the "folded and inverted" effect although it is entirely possible the effect was applied to the 3D model itself. Looking at the poster again I am even more convinced this is an image post processing because if it was truly folded and inverted this way in a 3D environment you should be seeing just the building footprints around the Central Park area.
