The 3D Effects toolbar

There should be some text to show what application that each toolbar belongs too.  I had to find the swipe tool, to determine this fact.  It would be nice to just have some sort of bold text stating this:

ArcGlobe:

ArcScene:

Your tutorials are pretty extensive, nice overview, and lots of depth.

Hi Ted,

I am slowly sifting through all of these good things you have pointed out.
All of those small grammatical issues (spaces) and version changes (9.4>10) have all been corrected for PreRelease.
I will make a list of all of the other ones and work on the changes.  Many of our topics and images are being Translated now so the workflow to have authoring privledges back to edit them is a little harder - but not impossible! 🙂

Thanks for the thorough digging!

The graphic shows a List by Selection on the TOC, so is this coming at Pre Release or is this an older prototype view?

Hi Ted,
Yes, List By Selection was added for Pre Release. Thanks for pointing this out. I updated the graphic but I see not the description in the table.

TIN Editing toolbar drop-down menu options

There are no hyperlinks for any of the options on this doc:

Start Editing TIN
Stop Editing TIN
Save
Save As
Undo Since Last Save
Set to Constrained Delaunay

Hi Ted,

Correct, this is intentional. There are no individual topics for these options to establish any link to. The table description is all the information on these items.
Only the TIN editing tools have separate topics.  I will ask the author of this topic if its possible to insert a related topic link at the bottom to Fundamentals of editing TIN surfaces.

Thanks,
Karen

Just prior to step 4:

You can also click the text properties button  after selecting the 3D text to invoke theDefault Text Element Properties dialog box.

Space between the Default

Thanks Ted,
Requesting to have this fixed this week or early next.
I will try to republish the webhelp soon to update what you are all seeing.

3D Editor toolbar drop-down menu options

Is the Save Edits suppose to have a hyperlink?

BTW, I like the graphic detailing what can be used with each tool, on the 3D editing toolbar dropdown, this took some time to make this little graphic.

For the The 3D Editor toolbar tools

Edit Placement Tool and Edit Vertices do not have hyperlinks, too.

Hi Ted,

Correct, the tools or commands which are not hyperlinked means there is no other page of information associated only for that item.  They are described in the table and used in other topics but there is no other dedicated info or steps about that individual item.

Thanks,
Karen

Cool, thanks Karen.  I had heard your doc was going to be translated, so I wanted to make a push to get this in early compared to later, like I will attempt with GP.  This is a HUGE release for 3D in so many ways.

It would be nice to have an interactive snapping tolerance tool, where there is a 3D circle around the cursor that one can draw interactively to define the tolerance, but the feedback to us, would be a 3D circle that grows from the center of the user click.

The 2D version is created from a point click and draws outward, but on a flat plane.

The 3D version we could see in 3D, perhaps as part of 10.1.

Hi Ted,

This is a great suggestion and already a part of 2D editing (Snapping Tolerance tool). I've submitted this as an enhancement to work on for 10.1.

Thanks,
Karen

It would be nice to have a page in the editing section for just Editing Shortcut Keys in relation to 3D Editing, something that we can get to quickly, I see the shortcuts in the doc, but they are a part of the read, and sometimes, you just want to see a list, perhaps there is a doc, and I just haven't found it yet, the day is still early.

Hi Ted,

The Editing help has a very thorough Shortcut key page of core editing tasks, so I would recommend using that page. It, of course, has many more features than we offer because they have more editing toolbars, but the common items should be the same.

You can find this page at: http://help.esri.com/en/arcgisdesktop/9.4/help/index.html#/Keyboard-shortcuts-that-can-be-used-while...
Any 3D editng shortcuts are included in the topic they are relevant to. For example Move, Rotate, Scale.

I hope this helps.

Thanks,
Karen

the Navigate Icon and Full Extent Icons in the doc appear to be from 93

Hi Ted,
Thanks.
Yes, these are part of those weird instances that occured when we tried to migrate all our content from the old Content Managemnet system into the new. These are examples of icons that did not migrate properly and are not a proper variable. I am making sure these topics are getting fixed to show the correct, updated button graphic.
