Have you tried creating a polygon shapefile with the reverse of what you already have? Assuming you don't have ArcEditor or one of the higher end licenses, you could create a polygon the same size as your DEM area (i.e., so as to preserve the extent), and then union this with the mounds polygons. From the unioned feature class delete your mound areas, leaving a swiss-cheese like area (i.e, area without mounds). Then use this feature class to clip your raster. Would that work? Hi thank you for the suggestion - that seems like a plausible approach. I figured out another way: Used: I had a area of interest polygon and individual mound polygons. used erase (analysis > Overlay> erase) to create polygon with mounds missing; used this as the mask (spatial analyst > extraction > extract by mask) to produce DEM without mounds (holes). Hello, I have a DEM and I have a shapefile showing polygons that represent mounded features. I want to create a DEM which has 'holes' in the data where the mounds occur. This is because I wish to regrid it and then subtract this hypothetical bathymetric map without mounds from the original in order to work out the mound heights. Also if you can think of an easier way to calculate mound heights please let me know. Thank you, Stapes

Hello all, Does anyone have a method for detecting mound boundaries? I am working on bathymetry data which consists of mound features ~ 50 m high and average 200 m diameter. Some are rounded, many are elongate. The edges of the mounds are difficult to see on a shaded relief image, impeding the ability to place accurate zone boundaries. The mound boundary could be defined as the point where the 6 degree slope contour begins. I would like to create a polygon at this slope degree contour boundary; however the resulting 6 degree slope contour raster has many 6 degree contour points (see image). So perhaps a this information could be used in addition to peak heights I.E. create separate polygons around all contiguous areas between the 6 degree slope contour and the peak height. Thanks, Well the mound boundary has been defined as the point where the 6 degree slope contour begins. So this could be used in addition to the peak. So maybe: all contiguous areas between the 6 degree slope contour and the peak height..? I'm a GIS amature.. Stapes

Hi all, I am working on data which consists of many mound features > 50 m high and average 200 m diameter. Some are rounded and others are elongate.
