Hi, Is there a way to specify the exact number of times a shape is split? For example (from the manual): A--> split(x){ 2 : X(2) | 1 : Y(1) }* will give as many of the "2 1 2 1 ..." pattern as can fit. But what if I want to have exactly 3, as in "2 1 2 1 2 1" and leave the rest of the shape unused? I can always do: A--> split(x){ 2 : X(2) | 1 : Y(1) | 2 : X(2) | 1 : Y(1) | 2 : X(2) | 1 : Y(1) } But I want the number of times to repeat to be an attribute. Something like: A--> split(x){ 2 : X(2) | 1 : Y(1) } * repeat Thanks!

From trial and error, it looks like whenever you associate a .cga with a shape, one should add a bit of delay to it, as in (function "framewait" defined in earlier post) ruleFile = "rules/foo.cga" ce.setAttribute(zone, "/ce/rule/ruleFile", ruleFile) framewait(2)

I upload the results to arcGIS online, so I do need the model to be complete. With @noUIUpdate and asynchronous, how can I tell when the models are ready for upload?

Thanks for the suggestion. I gave it a try it works a bit better. I ended up doing a hack, where I estimate the wait delay based on how many buildings (collada) I need to redraw. def framewait(delay=0😞 print "Waiting", delay, "seconds ..." time.sleep(delay) views = ce.getObjectsFrom(ce.get3DViews()) views[0].frame() ce.waitForUIIdle() print "frame finished"

Hello, I am doing the following all in python: Associate a rule file with a shape Generate the model Create an new rule file Associate the new rule file with the shape But when I try to regenerate the model using the new rule file, it seems to fail unless I put a delay in front, as in: time.sleep(10) shapes = ce.getObjectsFrom(ce.scene, ce.isShape) ce.generateModels(shapes) Is there a reason why the delay is needed? I might be doing something wrong here. Thanks, Robert

Hi, I want to specify the output file when doing an export with a python script. For example, I want to avoid having to hard code something like: file = ce.toFSPath("models")+"/model.json" Thanks!

Thanks for the information. Perhaps I can import the JTS geometry library into CityEngine to extend the jython functionality. Update: Getting JTS into cityengine worked, using this article pyright: jython + the JTS geometry library. Note I had to be careful with the coordinate system: CityEngine -z is JTS y.

The next step is for the height of the buildings to respond to the sun location. For example, I want the buildings along the southern edge of the lot to be low, and the neighboring ones progressively taller. I haven't figured out how to get the heights of neighboring buildings, so I am using the python export to get building locations and calculating the height using python. Unfortunately, with Jython, I cannot import modules like "numpy" so it's becoming a bit of kluge, doing a system call to a python script from within Cityengine's jython. I feel I am approaching this problem the wrong way. Suggestions?

I am creating a number of shapes that represent buildings. (See attached.) I want to have the buildings facing south to be shorter, and progressively taller as you go north. How would I capture that using shape grammar? Suggestions appreciated! -Robert

Hi, I used the example as a reference and used my own file name I used the "os.path.exists" check and it came back true, but the popup form still came up. In the meantime, I've worked around this problem by doing a system call to a script that does the equivalent POST to arcGIS online. This works out even better, because I also want to create a scene layer from the scene layer package and share it with the public. -Robert

Hi, I am using PortalUploadSettings to automate the upload .spk files to ArcGIS online according to the example in the documents: uploadsettings = PortalUploadSettings() uploadsettings.setFile("/general/data/rpk/rpkassets_simple_01.rpk") uploadsettings.setTitle("RPK_Script_Upload") uploadsettings.setDescription("RPK from apidoctest script cga0") uploadsettings.setUsername(username) uploadsettings.setPassword(password) ce.upload(uploadsettings) but CityEngine pops up a form asking for the filename even when I have done "setFile". Have others been successful using PortalUploadSettings?
