We are on version 9.3.1 Apparently this feature only came in at version 10 http://help.arcgis.com/en/arcgisserver/10.0/apis/rest/index.html Is there anything we can do about this (apart from upgrade)?

Hi, we are trying to get the distance measuring tool example working with our GeometryService. http://help.arcgis.com/EN/webapi/javascript/arcgis/help/jssamples/util_distance.html As far as we can tell it is enabled, but when we call it: http://..........:8399/arcgis/rest/services/Geometry/GeometryServer/distance?f=json&geometry1=........ We get back this: dojo.io.script.jsonp_dojoIoScript4._jsonpCallback({"serviceDescription" : ""}); Any ideas what is wrong, any logs we can check for a more helpful error message? Thanks, James

Thanks. Hmmm. Reckon it's cos they want to keep that as a private property? The underscore at the start can be a convention for that in some languages.

I got something along those lines working, thanks ... But the answer to my question: "Is there any property like navToolbar.navType or function like navToolbar.getNavType() I can use to find [what is currently active]?" is no then?

I understand arcgis desktop has a feature whereby you can click on a element and it will be highlighted on the map. We're trying to do something similar ... a user does an Identify search and then gets a set of results, and later can click on one to get a highlight appearing on the map. It looks like the class "IdentifyResult" has a "feature" attribute which is a "Graphic" type So we should be able to do something like map.graphics.add(result.feature) no? But I'm having problems getting this to produce anything ... anyone have any ideas? Thanks, James

Do you know if anyone's actually implemented a single click to zoom out handler? Would be great to add this in. It's not a matter of personal favourites, its user expectations. I haven't seen any other software package where a single click in "Zoom Out" mode does nothing. The users will expect it to do something. Thanks for your help 🙂

smunshi, notice how on the example I linked, when you select "Point" tool the help text hovers next to the mouse, and follows the mouse round while the tool is active? Doing what you suggest will only make the text appear when a user hovers over a toolbar button.

http://help.arcgis.com/EN/webapi/javascript/arcgis/demos/toolbar/toolbar_navigation.html Zoom out tool - why do you have to draw a box? I can see it's useful to be able to control how far you zoom out by drawing the box. However when you click, nothing happens. This is counter to every other zoom out tool out there and users will be surprised by this. Drawing a box for zoom out is not intuitive. Why can't it be done so a click zooms out by a pre-set amount, yet drawing a box allows the user to control how far you zoom out? Then you have the best of both.

http://help.arcgis.com/EN/webapi/javascript/arcgis/demos/toolbar/toolbar_draw.html When you select a tool like "point" and move over the map, a floating text box appears with some help text. eg "Click to add a point" Is it possible to add the same help text to other toolbars, like "Zoom in" on Navigation? http://help.arcgis.com/EN/webapi/javascript/arcgis/demos/toolbar/toolbar_navigation.html Thanks,

Looking at that sample, if I take the dojo markup out so the body tag goes: <body class="claro">
<div style="width: 400px; height: 400px; margin: 0;">
<div id="map">
</div>
</div>
</body> The overview box still appears over the top right of the page not the map. Is this how it's meant to work?

I am following http://help.arcgis.com/EN/webapi/javascript/arcgis/help/jssamples/map_overviewmap.html And the overview map functions properly but it appears in the top right hand corner of the entire web page, not the map. This happens in IE, Chrome and FireFox. Has anyone come across this before? One thing is I am not using the dojotype dijit.layout.* tags, I have my own div I am styling directly. But it must be possible to get this sample working without such tags? Thanks, James
