Hi Thomas, Thanks for the prompt response. This does work if I want to change the center and keep the camera in the same position. So that's half my problem. I also want to be able to keep the same center but change the location of the camera. I tried using the pattern you described above, but it doesn't work for that case. Do you have an idea of how I can change the position of the camera keeping it looking at the same center? Cheers, Christian.

I’ve been scratching my head trying to figure out how to set both the camera position and the center position simultaneously in 3D. I’m used to being able to do just that in Three.js, but it seems when I try to set both positions in the Arcgis JavaScript API the result is never what I expect. I tried to do it by using the goTo method and it didn’t work. I tried doing it by setting the camera and center property on the view, but that also didn’t work. The result is always that the camera or the center is correct, but not the other. Anybody knows how to do it? How to have both the camera and center be at specific desired positions? Hi Kristian, I've been playing around and found an "undocumented/unsupported" way to do it.... Using the the following sample: http://jscore.esri.com/javascript/sample-code/sandbox/sandbox.html?sample=scene-local If you add the following code after the view is created, it will "turn off" the grid: var terrain; view.then(function () { terrain = view._basemapTerrain; terrain.on("load", function () { terrain.opacity = 0; }); }); So the only bad part here is accessing the private _basemapTerrain property. So maybe a basemapOpacity property could added to the SceneView (or something like it)? Cheers, Christian.

Hello, The API documentation doesn't have toJSON() documented on objects like FeatureSet, geometries and symbols, but the method does exist on these objects. Is it safe to assume toJSON will be supported in the 4.0 final? Cheers, Christian.

Hi Rickey, The easiest way to get the grid shown is to use the local scene sandbox example https://developers.arcgis.com/javascript/beta/sample-code/sandbox/sandbox.html?sample=scene-local and remove the basemap from the new WebScene declaration. I don't think there is an actual way to access the grid.... Cheers, Christian.

Hello, I have a question about the vertical coordinate system. I have a service that serves X,Y in Web Mercator (102100) but the Z is NAVD_1988_Foot_US (ArcGIS Server doesn’t seem to send the vcsWkid in the Json for the service). The SceneView renders it assuming meters, so it stretches the objects vertically. What is the proper way to specify the vertical coordinate system in 4.0 beta 1? The query task doesn’t seem to allow you to specify the out vertical coordinate system. Any help would be appreciated. Cheers, Christian.

Hi Kristian, Thanks for the answer. I think having the camera going below the surface is key for any oil and gas type applications, but it could also be useful for other industries such as utility companies that have underground cables and pipes. Cheers, Christian.

Hello, I have some 3D features that are subsurface. In order to see them I don’t set a base map and I also set the visibility on the basemapTerrain to false. So far so good, I can see the features below the surface. Is there a way to allow the camera to go lower than ground level? There seems to be code that prevents it from moving any lower. Hello, I was trying to set the scene to planar by assigning the globeMode property on the SceneView but that generates an "out of stack space" error. Looking at the API code, it seems to be assigning the globleMode property within the globeMode property setter. What is the correct way to set the scene to planar? The only way I got planar to work is by setting globeMode to “planar” (instead of "spherical") in the constructor function in the SceneView.js file that I’m serving locally from the downloaded API but that's not a viable solution.
