Hi, I was wondering if there is another example on how to use the progress bar. I clicked the link in the thread but it has been removed. i am trying to add a progress bar when the map loads or when layers are added. Thanks. Jerry Hi unfortunately I can't find the link either. But here is what u can do: Have a some html mark up like so: <span id="status" style="position: absolute; z-index: 100; right: 350px; top: 200px;">Loading... </span> And css like so: #status { background-color: black; color: white; padding: 3px; border: solid 3px white; border-radius: 5px; } And in your script u can call esri.show(dojo.byId("status")) at the start of you long running process and esri.hide(dojo.byId("status")) after the end of the long running process. Hope that helps, Lawrence

In case anyone is facing the same possible. ESRI have confirmed this is not possible in ArcGIS Server. "So the only thing you can really do is duplicate layers in MXD and show them with different simbology for a predefined scale levels." Lawrence

While the Bing Extension is still available, if you want to use bing basemaps, we recommend using the ArcGIS API for JavaScript. You can use maps from bing as your basemap(s) in any ArcGIS API for JavaScript application. Thanks very much Derek for you prompt response.... But I just need some clarification.... So if I have the following requirements and must use Bing for background mapping, directions etc, am I right in my understanding of the tools available; Birds eye (is only available using Bing Extension) Load and Toggle Dynamic service layers (is only available using JS API). Note I have tested this script http://arcscripts.esri.com/details.asp?dbid=16066 but although I can add DMSLayers through Bing Extension, I am not able to manipulate them because several properties e.g layerInfos are only available after esri.Map maps.AddLayers has been called. Bing Map control (is only available using Bing Extension, although I could fudge a replica in JSAPI) Streetside (is not available in both unless I use silverlight) On the fly data projection (is only available using JS API) In short my problem is which API satifies my requirements but not requiring a plug in so Silverlight and Flex are out of the question. Thanks again, Lawrence

Hi Guys, Using the Bing Extension for Javascript is it possible to; Add dynamic services to the Bing map Control? Manipulate the state of individual layers within the DMS Layer e.g toggling layers on and off as is possible within the JS API ? Does anyone use this Bing Extension out there, what are your views? Using JS API and VETiledLayer is it possible to add Birds eye and street side? Any sample code would be highly appreciated. Thanks you very much in advance. Lawrence

Ok guys in case anyone experienced this, the first question on document.namespaces error relates to Aptana. I changed my IDE to VS2010 and I am able to debug my application without issues. Lawrence

Please help me guys. I have a some of questions about JS Extension for Bing for use with ArcGIS Services? What is the latest version for the mapControl which I should use? , I am testing "http://dev.virtualearth.net/mapcontrol/mapcontrol.ashx?v=6.2" with jsapi version "http://serverapi.arcgisonline.com/jsapi/ve/?v=1.4". Although the sample runs without issues, testing on aptana v3 running firefox, I have an errror; TypeError: document.namespaces is undefined at [Top-level script]() (/mapcontrol/mapcontrol.ashx:149) Has anyone experience this before? Thanks, Lawrence

Should anyone encounter the same problem :). Dojo validation with W3C is an issue. Several workarounds are available. I found this link extremely helpful. http://mail.dojotoolkit.org/pipermail/dojo-interest/2009-June/036515.html

I have a site built using JSAPI which I need to validate using http://validator.w3.org/. Unfortunately I get errors right at the start of the html document for example this line <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" /> gives the error "# Warning Line 4, Column 76: NET-enabling start-tag requires SHORTTAG YES <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=utf-8" /> â?? The sequence <FOO /> can be interpreted in at least two different ways, depending on the DOCTYPE of the document. For HTML 4.01 Strict, the '/' terminates the tag <FOO (with an implied '>'). However, since many browsers don't interpret it this way, even in the presence of an HTML 4.01 Strict DOCTYPE, it is best to avoid it completely in pure HTML documents and reserve its use solely for those written in XHTML. " And I have 40 of these errors some of which refer to dojo attributes being unrecognised eg. # Error Line 35, Column 33: there is no attribute "DOJOTYPE" <input dojoType="dijit.form.RadioButton" checked="checked" onClâ?¦ â?? You have used the attribute named above in your document, but the document type you are using does not support that attribute for this element. This error is often caused by incorrect use of the "Strict" document type with a document that uses frames (e.g. you must use the "Transitional" document type to get the "target" attribute), or by using vendor proprietary extensions such as "marginheight" (this is usually fixed by using CSS to achieve the desired effect instead). This error may also result if the element itself is not supported in the document type you are using, as an undefined element will have no supported attributes; in this case, see the element-undefined error message for further information. How to fix: check the spelling and case of the element and attribute, (Remember XHTML is all lower-case) and/or check that they are both allowed in the chosen document type, and/or use CSS instead of this attribute. If you received this error when using the <embed> element to incorporate flash media in a Web page, see the FAQ item on valid flash. Has anyone successfully validated a JSAP version 2.5 app using W3C validator or its an impossible task? Thank you very much, Lawrence

Hi Guys, In ArcIMS, you can set a layer to display as a point when zoomed out. How can I accomplish this in AGIS JSAPI? I have over 19 Dynamic services each with numerous layers. I don't want to create 2 layers with different symbols and display levels ie scale restrictions as I have a TOC combined with a legend which controls when a layer is diplayed or not, this would just muddy the waters. Many thanks, Lawrence

Hi, I have successfully developed a web app using JSAPI and Google layer using gmapslayer.js. The problem which I have is that when i zoom or pan especially using drag and drop there is a slight but noticeable delay between my dynamic service layers and the Google layer. Where as my DMS will follow the drag and drop movement immediately, the Google map tends to follow a second or 2 later. I have checked my other background layer which is open street map and it does not have the same problem! Has any one experienced this? I think the ArcGIS Google Map Extension may not have the same problem but I have gone so far in the implementation of this app, I would not like to rewrite it again. Can i use Google Map Extension with AGIS Javascript API? Any help/leads would be most appreciated. Thank you, Lawrence

If you can create a .emf image with the opacity level you need and then symbolize your features to fill with the picture symbol and then choose the .emf file, that may work for you. Thanks - but it sounds a little bit of an effort, I have 19 dynamic service layers each with up to 20 layers each! It might take me some time.....

Does your transparency need to be adjustable? Can't you just set the transparency in the mxd for the FCs that need it? Thanks - but ideally I would like to adjust transparency for each feature class within the mxd individually and if you do this, the transparency is not respected in JSAPI. Setting transparency for the dynamic service layer though works but is a little restricting.
