Thanks for replying. Technically we're on IBM i 7.1- we just keep calling it 'the 400'. Our software vendor for our assessment/taxation system uses it and unless they transition, it's what we have to use as well. IT says they don't see it happening at least within the next 5 years.

With ESRI dropping support for ArcMap in 2026 I am trying to get our office set up for a transition from editing in ArcMap and sharing in ArcReader to using ArcGIS Pro. My current process is perfect for our organization but I keep running into roadblocks replicating it all in ArcGIS Pro. The two biggest hurdles are connecting our AS/400 attribute data and viewing imagery in Explorer. In ArcMap 10, I build my layout, have an OLE DB connection to our attribute data, and when I publish a map, the shared PMF just works. It pulls all the vector and raster data from the local server and when I make changes it's near instantaneous in updating. When I try and replicate the setup in Pro, my OLE DB connection is empty, all the options for sharing say they repackage our data instead of just connecting to it, and everything I read about raster imagery files for Explorer seem to require very expensive (computer power and storage) pre-rendered image tiles. So far I estimate I have put 20+ hours just into researching this- am I just missing something here, or are we going to have to scrap everything and dump tons of money into Enterprise?

I will look into sorting with Arcade, and start ranging out a little bit more to explore my options. Thank you for responding so quickly.

I need to list "Park Names(string)" within my legend and have them sorted by their "Park Number(int)". I do this in ArcMap 10.5 by going to Properties->Symbology->Unique values, many fields->Place "Park Number" in slot 1 and "Park Name" in slot 2->Advanced->Field Delimiter-> Replace "," with ". "->Ok->Apply In ArcGIS Pro I can do the same thing, up until designating a new delimiter. I cannot figure out how to switch it from a comma to anything else. I have tried using Arcade to build a label expression but it casts the entire label as a string, and thus sorts the parks based on number strings. Worst case scenario I type it all up manually, but I'm hoping there's something I have overlooked. Thank you

I followed your link and it didn't ask me anything. The legend opened automatically which took up most of the view but after I closed it everything seemed to work fine without any pop-ups asking me anything.

Hello to everyone responsible for hiring/interviewing/picking a candidate for a GIS related job, My wife and I are looking at moving to a big city in about a year or two and I am starting to realize that I will need a new job once I move. This has got me thinking about what I can do now that will make me a better candidate for my GIS dream job (whatever that may be). For those of you who have been directly (or indirectly) involved in hiring for a GIS related position I would like to pick your brain. Below are some of the questions that have plagued me recently. If you could give your insight on one, a couple (or all would work too), I would greatly appreciate it. 1. What GIS related entry on a resumé has stood out to you in the past? 2. Do you use a portfolio or some kind process to check out past work? 3. Do you use a competency test during the interview or as part of the hiring process? 4. What is more valuable to you? A degree in related GIS field, certifications in GIS, years of experience? 5. Complete the sentence. "If you can be nothing else then be ____" Thank you so much for your input!

That's a good question. Are you typing in the full path or giving it a variable with the path stored in it? when I googled your error message I came across a similar stack exchange question here. I am by no means an expert with python but it looks like it might be expecting a string and instead getting a list or something.

Hi Andrew, As far as an arcpy option, I am not sure. But I just tried this script and it worked for me within the python window in arcmap. import os os.startfile("Path to your mxd") I think it emulates a double click event and opens pretty much any file you give it as far as I have seen.

Micah, After running the loop over 6 parcel shapefiles I couldn't tell any difference in the movement of the lines (I left the cluster tolerance at the default value) Perhaps with many more iterations and a bit of wizardry with the cluster tolerance it might have worked. I ended up doing it the old fashioned way. Thanks again for all your help!

Thanks Micah, I tried the rankings but unfortunately my XY tolerance is large enough that no matter the ranking it still moves the input ranked at "1".

Thanks Chris, Unfortunately my Landuse layer isn't parcel based. I started with your first suggestion and it has highlighted my problem areas, its somewhat slow going but I guess I am just a little whiny and looking for a 'magic' tool to fix all my problems . Thanks again Chris!

Micah, That tool like like exactly what I am looking for, however, does it appears it modifies both inputs. Is there a way or a separate tool that holds one input as "gospel" and modifies the others? Thanks again!

I am looking for a good way to 'fill the gaps' between my county's polygon layer and a land use layer I inherited. I need the green symbolized land use polygons to, at the very least, overlap the red lined parcel polygons. There are several thousands of this example throughout my county and I would like to avoid correcting them by hand if I can. Does anyone have a solution or tool for my situation? Thank you!
