Sorry for delayed response! We had not migrated to Pro at the time I reported this issue over a year ago. My job duties have shifted since then as well, so I haven't had a chance to explore alternatives. Switching to Pro may indeed solve the problem but I have not verified. Pro is built to work with ArcGIS online much more seamlessly, so I'm sure there is just a little check box or something that needs to be checked...

Thanks @jcarlson My organization is 160+ people, with around 30 GIS users, with widely varying skills and knowledge sets, of which there are about 2 of us who I'd consider "super users". There's additional confusion of those with ArcGIS Online access (whole different set of permissions and best practices) and those with my.esri.com organizational access (e-learning, tech support, etc). Is there a page somehwere that lists all the different permission types and a good explanation of what they are and examples of those types of people? @TeresaDolan has a series of good articles here on the community site about best practices, but I haven't found a complete summary yet. Probably its in the help files or documentation?

I've searched this community and can't seem to find a best answer. What are the recommended permissions to grant for a general GIS user? I typically just allow view training information, access e-learning, view event and view technical information. Are there any others?

Thank you for your reply! Yes, we looked at both of those. None of the scenarios described that could cause issues are true in this case. There was a join used to create the hosted feature layer initially, but it was saved as a new layer, so according to what is written about that, that shouldn't make a difference.

What happened to the "overwrite" option in ArcGIS online feature layers? I recall (possibly incorrectly?) that in the Update Data option, there were 2 options - Append Data or Overwrite Data. Now there's only one: Append data. We have a hosted feature layer that is the source for a Web Mapping Application. The feature layer includes a lot of styling and pop-ups, etc. Rather than re-create it all over again with our updated data, (or spending a lot of time deleting duplicate records) we'd rather just overwrite the existing hosted feature layer and replace with our new one. Yes - all the fields are the same, so technically styling and formatting should be the same. None of the identified issues about why Overwrite won't appear in "Manage hosted feature layers - ArcGIS Online Help | Documentation" holds in our case. Any suggestions? Thank you!

Yes - just appears that it was a service disruption. Unfortunate timing for me as I was trying to record a demonstration of a project! Lesson learned: don't record demos on a weekend when there may be system updates or maintenance. Thank you for the responses!

FRS_EPA Interests do not show up in the neither the classic or "new" arcgis online map. I had some basic web maps and apps that reference the layers from Living Atlas because they are symbolized nicely. Just wondering why they are not showing up on my maps any more? I can access the REST service from EPA, so I'll do that for now, but the Living Atlas layers were super handy... service URL : https://services.arcgis.com/cJ9YHowT8TU7DUyn/arcgis/rest/services/FRS_INTERESTS/FeatureServer/0

@JoshuaBixby - yes, that is exactly the problem. The layer list is not refreshed in the python window as content is removed from the TOC layer list. And yes @KoryKramer I have tried refreshing ArcMap as well as resaving and save as after removing layers - but the window clutter is still there. The good part is that the *new* layers do show up - so this is more an annoyance, an unexpected and unanticipated behavior. There needs to be a way to flush the window or clear the python cache, as you say, in ArcGIS Desktop. Glad to hear that it appears to be corrected in Pro.

when using the python interpreter window within ArcGIS Desktop, the layer list does not update if the table of contents changes. For example, in my .mxd I have three layers - but when I'm writing a command, for example arcpy.MakeFeaureLayer_management, the auto-populated layer list does not reflect the layers that are currently in the table of contents. See image for example. Is this a bug or what? If it's a bug, it should be fixed.

The Item Types listed in the Contents and My Contents page, should have corresponding descriptions and definitions in the ArcGIS Online documentation here: What can you add to ArcGIS Online?—ArcGIS Online Help | Documentation . Currently there is not a 1:1 description of what is listed in the "Item Type" filters in ArcGIS Online and what is described in the online help documenation. Its difficult to help someone, especially a new GIS user, navigate all the language describing the content that is created when a person makes a Story Map, for example, or wishes to add content to ArcGIS Online. I feel this idea is somewhat related to @Joshua Damron's idea Data Management - Working Notes on Items. His idea about working notes indicates having the ability to see what items go into creating a certain web map, app or layer. Having consistent documentation can help with data management and governance as there will be more clarity about what items go into a Story Map, or Survey123 application, for example. There are a number of layers, maps and items that go into building those products and new users may not even be aware of this. Knowledge of their interdependency is critical for good data stewardship and governance, and greatly helps out the site administrator if staff leave the organization.

Is this bug going to be fixed anytime soon? I"m using 3.10, used Survey123 Connect to build form. I was having similar issues with the publishing process hanging, but when I did the 'workaround' (adding dummy question outside the repeat, add the question I really wanted to add w/in the repeat, and they publish) it worked no problem. I then went back in and deleted the dummy question, published again - successfully. Weird. Would be nice if this bug were fixed soon as it seems to have been around for at least 2 years...

That is exactly the issue! It was very late when I posted this - and it was about 5am that I realized my error! NULL = BAD for symbology! Thank you!

I'm not sure if this is the best place to put this - I don't post very often to GeoNet, and there doesnt' appear to be a Desktop Symbology "place"... How do I get the pie chart to show up even though not all the data fields have values? For example, I have the sum of all the animal species, as shown here an I have the total number of permits for these species combined, so the three wedges of the pie chart (beef, dairy, pigs) should be a proportion of the whole. However, if there's no value there - as there is for a lot of the pigs, then the chart won't show up. IS there any way to force it to show a blank wedge or change it so that the other values show up? Not sure if this makes sense, but it's the best I can describe it at this point.
