Hi Yigal, thanks for sharing this info about the success you found in using gpsgate. With regard to the issue of gpsgate not supporting https, does this mean that your WAB apps and map services also can not use https and everything must run via http? (In our case we are using ArcGIS Portal for Server with Windows authentication and this requires every component to use SSL, such that everything has to use https....which may limit our options ) Pascual Benito, PhD Associate Engineer Northgate Environmental Management, Inc. 428 13th Street, 4th Floor, Oakland, CA 94612 phone (510) 839-0688, ext. 225; mobile (510) 381-0304; fax (510) 839-4350 www.ngem.com Certified Bay Area Green Business CONFIDENTIALITY NOTICE: This e-mail and its attachments from Northgate Environmental Management, Inc. contain information that is confidential and/or privileged and is intended for the sole use of the individual or entity named above. As follow up to my earlier question/comment. We did further testing and I believe we have discovered that the problem is not in WAB, but is actually possible BUG in ArcGIS Server when returning results for spatial layer that is coming from a non-ArcSDE geography type that is in different projection than the rest of the layers. In our case problem is actually happening on ArcGIS Server side of things and strongly looks like is a bug in how it is handling returning the geometry coordinates for queries against a feature class which is not an ArcSDE feature but is a SQL Spatial geometry object. ArcGIS Server is asked to return the coordinates for the feature in Web Mercator (e.g. meters), but it is incorrectly returning the lat long values of the coordinates and then attempting to go there in Web Mercator system which is close to 0,0, and sends us off to west coast of Africa. We tested out the map request directly from the ArcGIS Server Rest endpoint and this is how we isolated problem: This is example of the query that WAB was running when we clicked on attribute table: WAB sends request to zoom to feature which is in WGS84 SQL Spatial geometry (and should should be returning geometry in Web Mercator wkid=102100 coordinates): https://servername/arcgis/rest/services/PWA/ACPWA_MaintStar_Viewer/MapServer/101/query?f=json&where=&returnGeometry=true&spatialRel=esriSpatialRelIntersects&objectIds=5&outFields=*&outSR=102100 Response - appears that ArcGIS Server returns Long/Lat values for coordinates instead of the requested Web Mercator: {"displayFieldName":"wo_no","fieldAliases":{........:"edited_by","edit_dt":"edit_dt","ESRI_OID":"ESRI_OID"}, "geometryType":"esriGeometryPoint","spatialReference":{"wkid":102100,"latestWkid":3857},"fields": .... We are going to be opening support ticket with ESRI.

When I last researched this topic about a year and a half ago, my assessment was that this may not be possible due to how Windows handles allowing access to external GPS devices via an application running in the browser as opposed to a non-browser based application (like ArcGIS Collector or an app developed in ArcGIS SDK) running natively on the same device. My understanding was that in order to access an external GPS device, the software must make use of the native Windows Location API. There are then two components of uncertainty when trying to use your external GPS device: 1) is your GPS device recognized by the new Windows Location API, and 2) does the browser you are using to access your WAB app make use of the native Windows Location API, or will it default to some other geolocation API that will instead return the location of IP Address or something like this. It would be interesting to hear if anyone else has concrete experience they can share on trying this out.

Hi Robert, (or others who may know answer). I have an app that was configured with an older version of the eSearch widget (v 1.2.0.1). We've configured dozens of layers for use with the widget and I was trying to understand if there is a process for updating to the newest version of the widget without having to reconfigure all the layers from scratch? I see that there is "versionmanger.js" file that looks like it must somehow help with this process, but I wasn't totally sure and was looking for more info on if there are any limitations in trying to upgrade versions once you have many layers configured and also some instructions on the steps to do this properly. (Apologies if this was asked and answered earlier, but I could not find an easy way in geonet to search through all the 64 pages of comments associated with the post). Thanks again for sharing the fruits of your development labor and knowledge with the wider WAB community! Pascual

Hi Leonardo, just curious if you ever resolved this issue or learned more about the source of problem? We're having similar issue where we have a feature class coming from SQL Spatial that is defined in WGS 84. Our MXD and Map Service is in California State Plane NAD83 (all of our other data is in this projection), and whenever you click on the feature in the Portal (or AGOL) map viewer or WAB attribute table, the map pans over to (0,0) instead of to the actual feature location (which shows up fine on the map). At the moment my theory is that there is some bug in AGOL map viewer attribute table widget that is getting confused with the fact that the feature has different spatial reference than the map service and because data is not coming from ArcSDE source (I assumed that ArcGIS server takes care of reprojecting on the fly etc..). The problem doesn't occur if I publish the layer alone as WGS84, but I was hoping to keep everything in a single map service because of some other custom widgets that operate on the map service layers.

Thanks for the suggestion, I had started to look in this direction. It seems like you have to set it so that you hide all the editable feature layers from the layer list, while at the same time you leave them checked as "visible" on the map (else they don't show up on the editor template list). I guess the possible downside of this approach is that the user can create situation where the visibility of the editable and non-editable version of the layer don't match. For example they can turn off the non-editable version of the 911Calls Hotspot Output_Features, but nothing prevents them from creating new Output_Features using the editor widget, and these new features won't be displayed on the map until they realize that they need to turn the non-editable version of the layer back on to see the new features. In the Portal/AGOL Web Map viewer app, this can't happen because the editable and non-editable version of the layers are always turned on/off at same time. But I think that this work around is probably my best bet for time being, and I will make end users are aware that they must have the non-editable version of layer turned on as well. Thanks Again!

Sorry if this has been asked elsewhere, but I looked and though found some similar things about grouping layers in AGOL but could not find thread with this exact question as it relates to WAB. Environment: ArcGIS Portal for Server (v10.3.1) and WABr Dev Edition (v2.1) I have dozens of editable layers that are grouped into sub-folders in the MXD and in the published map services. The editable feature service ends up with all the layers ungrouped. When you create a Web Map in Portal that includes both the map service (with the layers grouped) and the feature service (layers ungrouped), the web map layer list appears to recognize that the map service and feature service are related and so presents a single set of layers grouped in their original subfolders (screenshot below): However, when the Web Map is brought into WAB, this all goes out the window and the editable feature service layers lose their groupings and are just listed out in the layer list as one big list with no folders, and then the non-editable map service with the sub-folders is shown a the bottom of the list (see screenshot below). ( It seems like ESRI has figured out how to make this work in the Portal Web Map viewer app, so not sure why the WAB Layer List does not behave this way!) Question: Ideally I am looking for a way we could edit the Layer List widget so that the groupings would stay in place, and alternately, as possibly acceptable work around, I would be looking for how to have the non-editable map services show up a the top of the Operational layers and have the giant ungrouped list of editable feature services listed below them (this way the user doesn't have to scroll all the way through the giant list of editable layers just to get to the main map service).

I agree, very nicely done application. Almost not even recognizable as a WAB application. Every icon and widget looks like was custom developed or modified and I see functionality, such as the map themes, that I have not seen in any other WAB site. Did you develop a number of custom widgets for the map themes and other advanced tools? Can you describe the development process? E.g. was a single County GIS developer/consultant? Or team of developers that included GIS and other HTML/CSS developers? I see that app has now gone public: Interactive Map - County of Simcoe (GIS) . Kudos!

Hi Robert, thanks for the the link to the other discussion. Alas, I was of course hoping for something out-of-the-box in terms of some kind of WAB configuration for applying permissions to a widget akin to applying permissions to a web map, but I suspected that was not likely something in place yet in WAB. If I understand correctly, we will need to develop a "widget visibility control" widget that runs at startup and has the function of getting the username/group and then sets the visible state of each widget depending on which widgets are allowed for a particular user/group.

I would like to restrict access to certain widgets in my app to only certain groups of users within my organization (we are using Portal for Server). Can this be done in WAB (dev edition)? (as an example, let's say I wanted the print widget or layer control widgets to only be accessible by certain users).
