Could you perhaps use python to determine image brightness and encode it into the filename of the images you are dealing with? Suggests he who is terrible at python Not ideal but theoretically it would work for what you need.

Hi Tim, Glad you like it. It's still very much a hack but a good and useful one I have an intense week or two coming up but I'll see if I can shoot you something across after that. Cheers.

You could simply report it but that's not really usable for aggregated internal calculations unless you do it with Python. Here's one that calculates number of dwellings per hectare. PS: I colour the bottom splits just for a visual check. Not that you can see it from this angle. version "2019.1"
@Hidden
attr length = 30
attr width = 30
// Added this --------------------------------------------------------------
attr buildingNumber = 0
attr parcelArea = geometry.area
// Added this --------------------------------------------------------------
Generate-->
split(x) { 25 : Garden | length : split(z) { 25: Garden | width:Building}*}*
Building-->
case geometry.area < length*width -5 : Garden
else :
extrude(30)
// Added this --------------------------------------------------------------
comp(f) { bottom : label("countBuilding") countBuildings | all : NIL. }
countBuildings -->
color(1,0,0)
set(buildingNumber,contextCount(intra, "countBuilding"))
print("Dwelling Density Per Ha " + buildingNumber/(parcelArea/10000))
print("Building Count " + buildingNumber)
// Added this --------------------------------------------------------------

Hi CE folks, I've been progressively working my way through python and have a question about aggregate reporting with Python. In this case I'm trying to report FAR on a precinct level. I can do this via FME where I aggregate; Podium + Tower GFA's to Parcels Parcel GFA's to Precinct But am wondering if there's a way to somehow do this directly in CE and Python ? Has anyone done something similar perhaps ? Any ideas, help would be much appreciated. Cheers !

As per my reply here CityEngine 2019 missing Plant Library ? If you have ESRI.lib installed correctly in your workspace, and your projects sitting in there correctly too, then it should work properly. It does for me. Otherwise you'll need to supply more info on how you have these set up.

I can't test your rulefile obviously, so I tried a quick test exporting some building footprints that are mapped with an aerial image - pretty standard stuff. I get a one to one match between CE view and OBJ, FBX and Collada. (this is with Lightwave as I don't have MAX on this machine - but can test it tomorrow) As Kenneth mentioned, try centering the model, plus try using "Only write first layer of UV's" perhaps ? Autodesk developed / owns the FBX format so I find it hard to fathom that it wouldn't work properly with MAX.

Hi CE and python folks, Upfront disclaimer, I'm a python noob and seem to have forgotten most of the thing I tried and tested years ago with python & CE. I have gone back to some posts and tutes, namely Overwriting attributs / using report results for further calculations as well as this old tutorial http://www.arcgis.com/home/item.html?id=e1d05298b8ee469fbe0f3256634a76a3 All the python scripts that I run come back with the same NameError: global name 'model' not defined in the case of this script from tutorial 12 ... so I'm wondering if it's actually something up with my setup or if I'm missing something fundamental ? If someone could point me North I would greatly appreciate it as I'm lost as to why none of these work? Many thanks in advance. Cheryl Lau

Heya David, I'm so glad you like/ appreciate this. For a second there I thought that maybe I created something that's easily achieved in other ways in CE It's a little clunky, but let me just clean it up and comment things and then it's all yours. With a small addition from Esri to occlusion queries (not sure if it's possible however) this could be way more efficient, neater and easier to manage. For us it was to enable simple communication between podiums and towers, and to report on the building (with separate shapes and rule files) as a whole. I'm sure you'll think of way more interesting things to do with this.

Hi folks, An interesting by-product of my little experiments from this thread ... thanks Cheryl ! Minimum distance based on axis / world orientation ? With a bit of hacking I managed to get different shapes and rules to talk to each other (passing level numbers in this case) with just a single Attribute Connection Link - shapeID. This is just a simple proof of concept where; Initial slide (everything separate) shows each podium's and tower's number of levels. Podiums (red text) report on total number of levels - itself plus all towers placed on top of it. Towers (blue text) report on total number of levels - themselves plus all towers placed on top of the same common podium. So essentially podiums communicate one of their attributes to the towers, and towers communicate one of their attributes to the podiums. Podiums and Towers have different rule files applied, with only a single Connect Attribute link applied to both - a unique shapeID. They are not linked in any other way nor do they share common attribute names etc. It's all handled via occlusion queries.

Hi Esri folks, Our organisation (and a few others) are transitioning a lot of our old projects to the new GDA, and all new ones use this as the base, so I'm wondering when we can expect this to appear as an option in CE2019? I've noticed that it's not listed in the initial 2019.0 build. Cheers

Hi folks, We've recently installed the latest CE2019 and I'm just in the process of migrating old projects. I noticed that the Plant Library is totally missing ? In the 2019 Plant Loader rule the Asset Folder points to this directory which is non existent in my install ? /ESRI.lib/assets/Webstyles/Vegetation I tried a quick fix by copying the 2018 Plant assets across and changing the above line to the new location, as per the 2018 version, but it still doesn't work and I get the Unknown Asset cube where trees are meant to be. /ESRI.lib/assets/Plants I don't want to be digging through and changing existing code if this is a bug or some oversight with the installer ? Plus where are all the new glTF models that I've seen others refer to ?
