I would like to take advantage of the 64-bit background processing within the ArcMap, but whenever I enable Background Geoprocessing I receive the "Error 001143: Background server threw an exception". I have successfully setup 64-bit Anaconda and I can access 64-bit ArcPy module from Spyder. I have also setup a pythonstartup variable to allow use of the Python console from within ArcMap/Catalog and it correctly accesses the 32-bit ArcPy modules. I suspect that the RuntimeLocalServer isn't being called, as when I open a tool from ArcToolbox I do not ever see the RuntimeLocalServer show within the Windows Task Manager:Applications. I am using ArcMap 10.4 on a Windows 7 machine.

I also had error "R6034" and fixed quite simply by deleting my Normal.gxt file found in C:\Users\**YourUserName**\AppData\Roaming\ESRI\Desktop10.4\ArcCatalog Then restart ArcCatalog. I think it resulted from me having previously installed 10.4, then uninstalled, and upon reinstalling this error occurred. MS Visual C++ Runtime Error
