Tom, I'd be happy to setup a go to meeting and let you all tour my GIS to get a feel for how and why I have made certain model extensions/ additions. Email me at lee@wwm-llc.com if you all are interested. Thanks, Lee

Do you anticipate this new model to be the standard for some time? Or will you all continue to make yearly updates? Just trying to decide if I should upgrade from 2018 version in the next few months. I've had to extend the model quite a bit for pipeline midstream work.

My as-built data always includes station numbers in the attribution. I need a way to apply M values to line segments based on begin and end M value attributes. Would anyone have a tip on how to accomplish this? Thanks, Lee

Currently if a line feature class is M aware but the M values are null the features of that layer will not publish to ArcGIS online hosted feature service. Using the Esri Utility & Pipeline Data Model v2018 most of the line feature classes are M aware, however M values are not needed and therefore not calculated. This causes a problem because key feature classes in the data model cannot be published to web maps unless M values are calculated for many small line segments. Suggest Esri include a publishing option to include or not include M values when publishing to AGOL to fix this issue.

Does anyone else have this error when they open MXDs? This mostly occurs for me in MXDs that have alot of layers with alot of configuration. This has happened to me using 10.4 & 10.5 ArcMap at 2 different companies! So its definitely the software. I can usually open the attribute table and the map snaps back to normal. But sometimes it just freezes and I have to use the MXD Doctor. Any tip is much appreciated. Thanks, Lee

I will if it happens again I have already replaced the feature class. I have noticed that if I'm careful to have only one arcmap or catalog session going when I edit it won't happen.

C Drive actually. I know that editing FDGB on unstable networks can corrupt it so this is unusual.

This just happened to me on a very large table of line segments. +2000 small line segments and attribute table of about 50 columns. This is a scary problem with File Geodatabase because for some unknown reason your data can disappear and it cannot be recovered by any means. It seems to me that something between the attribute and geometry tables gets out of sync, and the data no longer reads properly. Whats strange is that I can see the records in the attribute table but not in the map. Then when I export the data I only get like 20 of 2000+ features. I get the attached error when I try to access the table preview from ArcCatalog. This has happened to me a couple times now so I am careful with File Geodatabase because it is buggy. It seems to happen when I have multiple instances of arcmap or arccatalog looking at the same features, even though I'm only editing in one. This kind of thing never happened with Access based Personal Geodatabase, good ole MDB. Esri, please research and fix!

There is a way to do something similar with a tile package, but you have to copy data to the local device. I used this for some offline collector use in Africa. Worked well.

I realize there's many ways to skin a cat when it comes to moving data around. I've done it every way there is to do it. I'm just proposing a more intuitive, and faster way in my opinion.

I don't like the Append tool. I've had issues with the field mapping/ loading. Also I'm not sure if it respects feature selection as input. I'm sure it will respect definition query. The simple data loader interface is far superior, and reliable. To further the idea, consider if you wanted to move features between existing feature classes. You could make your selection, export, and there could be an option to cut or to copy the features.

Could you all please add functionality into ArcMap/ Pro to export features from a layer into an existing feature class. Currently the Data\Export Data, Export Features, Export Table options output a new item. In the world of enterprise GIS and fixed data schemas it would be extremely helpful to be able to set a definition query or make a complex attribute/ spatial selection then export those features into your existing data structure with the help of a simple data loader. So the workflow would be: setup local data, create a layer, make your selection/ query, Data/Export Features, select feature class to output to, map fields in simple data loader....job done. Get another cup of coffee. Thanks for your consideration. Lee

I figured it would be quite a few zones, but you can intersect your roads with a polygon feature of UTM zones. Then there is a tool that will automatically create separate shapefiles based on an attribute. So semi-automated process. When you merge everything back together it doesn't matter the projection because you have already calculated the accurate 3D length in a column. So you could use the continental one. Would be interesting to compare what the length error really is.
