I wonder if carriage returns are enabled on the barcode scanner will that autoadvance to the next repeat within Survey123? I just learned that most scanners have a "carriage return" setting.

I'd like to create a Survey123 form where our field staff can quickly scan a barcoded tissue sample before packing into a box which is then shipped to a diagnostics laboratory. These shipments often consist of hundreds of samples so I need a rapid scan solution where you don't have to click or push between scans. So far I've not been able to figure out a solution that doesn't involve clicking in between scans. I need something similar to self checkout at a grocery store. Is this possible in Survey123?

Thanks Philip. Might you be able to share a template python script for updating the csv files in AGOL? Thanks, again!

Thanks again @DougBrowning . I am digging into this now as my survey is crashing daily with my current approach. So if I am tracking correctly, the better way would be to publish my csv files on AGOL and link them to my survey in Connect using Linked Content? And if so, how do I then update the files in AGOL? Also, tell me more about this search() way, I am not sure what that is referring to. Thanks so much! I am learning a lot from you and @Anonymous User .

@jaykapalczynski I still regularly use @Anonymous User 's script provided in this blog. You have to save the python2.7 script in the "download_folder" and you won't get the zip message error anymore.

I am having an occasional issue with a Survey I administer, and I was wondering if y'all can help. Lookup files in the media folder of my survey are updated many times a day using a few different scheduled scripts using the approach described by @Anonymous User in this blog post. Also, users are required to update the form after it has been updated. Most days there isn't an issue, but some days users get an "error unpacking" message when trying to update the survey. I am able to manually "fix it" by opening Survey123 Connect and republishing the survey via Connect. Does anyone have any ideas what might be causing this issue, or how I might address? Thanks!

Are you getting that message when you try to enter data in Survey123? If so, it might be that you have an editor User type. I learned this the hard way after purchasing an Editor user type for a staff member. They can edit data that has been submitted but can't submit new records. Kind of silly. See here for more.

In case it is helpful to others, I figured out a way to do this (see below). If others have more streamlined ways that doesn't involve storing and uploading files from my PC I'd love to learn from you! So what made this problem challenging was the dynamic nature of the data. If it were static and not constantly being updated I could just place a copy of the data to the media folder and use the pull data function in a note field that would indicate to the person entering the data that the confirmation number that they are entering data for is already in the data source. However, new data is constantly being added by multiple users so the challenge was automatically putting an updated data source in the media folder. Below is how I solved that problem (at least for now). So essentially I configured a series of 3 scripts: one to download a copy of the data from AGO to a file on my PC, one to query and reformat the data and save to another file in my media folder, and another to upload the media folder in AGO based on the file saved to the media folder on my PC. The first script is a python 2.7 script that ESRI folks shared a few years back called DownloadSurvey123Data.py. I can share a copy of that if anyone else wants it. The second script is a very simple R script that uses the tidyverse package to query and reformat the data. The third script is one that @Anonymous User developed and shared back in 2017 called updateMediaFolder.py. Once I got all three scripts to successfully run, I scheduled a task on my Windows 10 PC that runs the 3 scripts in order every hour.

I administer a survey that has gone from about 2k records annually to about 20k records entered annually in the past 5 years. Data cleanup (QA/QC) has become a significant burden for our organization, and I am trying to improve my survey by reducing the amount of bad data being entered. One of the main issues we are having is erroneously duplicated confirmation numbers (conf_no) . However, there are instances where a duplicated confirmation number is legitimate so setting that field to unique in AGO isn't an ideal solution. Is there a way to configure the survey so that when a confirmation number is entered into the conf_no field a warning message would display to alert the user and ask them to double-check that they have the right confirmation number? Thanks in advance for any help! @Anonymous User @ZacharySutherby @JamesTedrick

I am curious if you were able to successfully import ago and run that script on a PC that didn't have ArcGIS for Desktop installed? I am trying to do that now. Any insight is appreciated. Thanks!

I am about to send instructions to field staff regarding updates to our CWD Surveillance form for this year. Usually I encourage them to update their Survey123 apps to the latest version. Before I do that this year, I wanted to check and see if version 3.10 of Survey123 will still work on Windows 7 as many of them still have Windows 7. I thought I read somewhere that it wouldn't be supported as of this update, but I am unable to find that reference. Can someone please clarify for me? Zachary Sutherby
