Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. I first did a Feature To Line to break all the routes into segments by intersection. After that, used Spatial Join on itself to calculate the attribute summary (total buses). Then used Delete Identical to delete all the duplicate line work so that there was no overlapping geography.

Thanks for replying. Unfortunately Dissolve does not work because the Sum returns the Bus total of all the line segments, not just where the line segments overlap. It's looking like I need some sort of overlay analysis that will sum in the Z direction. Union or Intersect come to mind, but they don't have a Sum option.

I have line features of Bus Routes where every route/feature has an attribute with the Number of Buses per Hour. Up to 16 different routes can run down the same street. I want to summarize all the coincident line features into a single line with a sum of the number of buses. The attached screen capture is an example where there are 8 coincident routes/features in the selection. I want a single feature with the total of HW2_Bus, which would be 21. I'm looking for a way to do this in ether ArcGIS Desktop or ArcGIS Pro.

I ended up combining the From and To Nodes into a single field ordered low to high using str(min( !A!, !B!)) + "_" + str (max(!A!, !B!)). Then added a Dup field to identify the duplicate records. uniqueList = [] def isDuplicate(inValue): if inValue in uniqueList: return 1 else: uniqueList.append(inValue) return 0 Dup = isDuplicate(!A_B!!) From that I could query and export the two sets of lines using Dup = 0 and Dup =1

I very much agree. It's not they way I model things either, but this is coming from a State DOT model I did not develop.

Thanks for your reply. I'm not quite following. I added the Bearings field. When you say use the geometry field in Find Identical I take it you mean the Shape field? I did so and have the list of duplicates. I can relate that result back to the line file and select all the duplicates, but how are you suggesting I limit the selection to only the lines on top of others using the bearing? I added a screen cap of a small selection if that helps. These lines are all stacked. The lines in yellow show one example of two duplicate stacked lines.

I have a street centerline shape file where segments for bi-directional roadways are drawn as two stacked lines. The top segment for one direction of travel, the bottom segment for the opposite direction of travel. I need to separate these stacked lines into two different shape files. Anyone know how to select just the top set of lines so I can export them to a different file. I can just use switch selection to get the second set of lines then. Unfortunately none of the table attributes represent the top versus bottom segment, or direction of travel. The geometry of the top and bottom segments are the same. I looked at commands such as Find Identical, but that still selects both the top and bottom at the same time. Looking for a solution in ArcGIS Desktop 10.6.1 Advanced or ArcGIS Pro 2.6.2

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately I'm limited to an out-of-the-box solution. Looking for away to configure it in the WebApp Builder.

I was hoping to build a Bar Chart that displays percentages with one of the Infographics in the Web AppBuilder. I want a bar chart that displays the percentages on the fly like the pie chart does. I tried the Percentage Stacked Bar Chart, but all I get is bars where each display as 100%. I feel like I'm missing a simple setting in the configuration. I would think there would be an option to indicate what categories to stack, or what field to use as a total for calculating percentages. I want to avoid creating a new set of percentage fields in the tables. Anyone else have success making a bar chart that displays percentages dynamically?

Hi all, Any thoughts on where I might obtain a free Nationwide Routable Street Network to use in Network Analyst? At a minimum I would need: All streets, including local Posted speed limit Elevation fields I have a copy of Esri's North America StreetMap from around 2009 that will work, but looking for something more current. Thanks in advance for any input.

Hi Jim, I have a thread on Stack Exchnage about this: Variable Buffer on Street Centerline using ArcGIS - Geographic Information Systems Stack Exchange. I used a python script posted by Emil. My user name in the forum is Mercator. I was able to get it to work for about 90% of my intersections, but have not been able to figure out why the script is ignoring the others. I don't think my centerline data is the issue because there is no difference between the road segments that it works on and those that it does not. Would be interested in hearing how it works for you. Thanks.

These seems simple, and thought I have done it before. Using the manual editing tools in ArcMap Advanced 10.6.1. How do I split a single line where it intersects a line from a different layer. The Line Intersection Tool only works when both intersecting lines are in same layer that is being edited. In the image, the purple lines are set to editing. The grey base map lines are in a different layer/file. How do I split the purple line at the one intersection of the grey line circled in red?

Hi all, I have a street centerline file where all road segments have a functional class of Arterial (A), Collector (C), Local (L). I also have a point file of each intersection. I would like to do a crash analysis using 150' buffers at each intersection. The trick is that the buffer I want is not just a uniform 150' buffer off the intersection point. I want to buffer the centerlines for a specified length from the intersection point based on the functional class: A = 400', C = 250', L = 150'. For example where an Arterial (A) intersects a Collector (C), I want a 150' buffer of a 400' line segment from the intersection point for the Arterial roadway and a 150' buffer of a 150' segment for the Local Roadway. The image shows what I am trying to get at. I'm thinking I need to first find a way to create a feature of lines generated with the specified length. That's where I'm stuck. Then it would be just a simple matter of buffering that result. Anyone have any thoughts?
