I am trying to change the style of a polyline hosted feature layer in ArcGIS Online. The layer is editable. I am using the layer visualization menu item for the hosted feature layer. I have selected the layer and I have adjusted the colour of the line. In the visualization the colour is rendered correctly. I saved the layer. When I request the JSON of the layer definition for our application, the colour of the polyline is still the default purple. This used to work for polyline hosted feature services and still does for point and polygon feature services. I have not tried it for a while, so I don't know when this issue started. Is there something I am missing here? Cheers, Chris Mugdan

Our product has been using the ArcGIS Online REST interface successfully for a few years now. One of the requests we make is: https://site_id.maps.arcgis.com/sharing/rest/community/groups?f=json&q=title%3A%22requiredgroupid%22&token=tokenvalue On our company website this works fine with an administrative user as expected. I am now trying this on a customer site and I am getting: "User not allowed for this account" The user is an administrator. Can someone please advise what this error means and its cause and how I need to change my request to work? Do I need to check for this error and make a different request if it occurs? Will this error occur for all requests with this user's token on the site? Cheers, Chris Mugdan

Hi Victor, Thanks very much for the response. Having perused the documentstion I have decided that our application cannot use the oAuth2 mechanism and we shall be staying with the generateToken request. Cheers, Chris Mugdan

I have been searching for the method to use to obtain named user tokens (as opposed to app sign in) with the oAuth2 mechanism in the REST API but I have not found anything about it. The pages I found on the Esri site referred to it but did not describe it. Currently I am using the generateToken method. Can anyone direct me to some useful documentation? Cheer,s Chris Mugdan

Hi Victor, Thanks for the response. I don't think that we can gain access to the credentials in the BI tool so no, we cannot do that. I did look at the proxy but it is not suitable for our purposes. Cheers, Chris

Our product connects business intelligence tools to GIS platforms including Esri's offerings. We need to be able to log in to ArcGIS Online and Portal with named users from within our product. The product is a client server arrangement where the client is tied to the business intelligence tool and the server is tied to the GIS platform. The server is written in Java and is responsible for generating map images based on the GIS information and the layers we fetch from ArcGIS Online or Portal. We require that users only log in to the business intelligence tool. The map is purely an adjunct to the main business intelligence reports. Thus users will not directly log in either to ArcGIS Online or Portal. I have not yet found a mechanism with Esri's APIs to handle our situation and I am not sure how the Esri model integrates with enterprise identity providers to give us what we need either. Can anyone offer guidance on this please? Cheers, Chris Mugdan

Hi Amy, Thanks for the references. I shall peruse them. What we currently do is request feature layers and their features from ArcGIS Server map services or from Portal/ArcGIS Online then render them based on information we derive from Business Intelligence tools. Our product that connects to ArcGIS server is called "Map Intelligence for ArcGIS". Our web site is www.integeo.com and that will give you a better understanding of what we are doing. There seems to be more of a demand for vector tile layers recently so we are examining how we can accommodate that spatial data type in our product. Cheers, Chris

I am looking to write a vector tile layer renderer in Java as part of our web application and I need to know the format of the data that are returned from an Esri vector tile map layer. Can someone please direct me to a document or documents that describe this? Cheers, Chris Mugdan

Hi Thomas, My thinking is that, for Portal authenticated users, it would be helpful for each user to have properties for each individual user similar to Windows authentication, where there is a checkbox that indicates whether or not the user's password should expire or not and if it does expire then the expiration time. Cheers, Chris

Allowing control over individual Portal users' credentials would be more in keeping with an enterprise system rather than a global "one size fits all" policy. An obvious example would be allowing particular users to have non-expiring passwords.

I have a registered application created by me, an administrator of the Portal, and I own a group and web maps, but when I try to gain access to the content it does not have permission. Sequence: I generate an OAuth2 token with the client id and client secret. I request a specific group that i know is there and owned by me. I ask for a list of the web maps owned by me With the group it cannot find it With the web maps, it complains "Failed to get the contents: You do not have permissions to access this resource or perform this operation." How can I allow the application to gain access to the content and group(s)? Cheers, Chris Mugdan

Can someone please direct me to documentation that describes a REST API to perform Portal web tier authentication? I have been searching Esri sites and so far I have not found anything. At the moment our product uses Portal generated tokens to authenticate and I need to add the ability to authenticate via the web tier for both Active Directory and LDAP. Active Directory is the most important at the moment. If there is no REST API, what is available to do this?

The "extent" I am referring to here is the one that is in the response to a request of the form: https://<portal url>/sharing/rest/content/users/<user name>?num=10&f=json&token=<token> and the extent information appears to be in decimal degrees for the web map I have created. I want to know what CRS that extent is in. Below is a snippet of the response. Also, do you know the answer to my question about how to find what units the web map is in? Cheers, Chris ....... "type": "Web Map", "typeKeywords": ["ArcGIS Online", "Explorer Web Map", "Map", "Online Map", "Web Map"], "description": null, "tags": ["Australia test"], "snippet": "Australia test map", "thumbnail": "thumbnail/_7B13F314F4-7C86-4F95-B767-FE0871E20C3F_7D.png", "documentation": null, "extent": [[100.922048628469, -45.0493616849178], [163.716670827299, -7.28393079517143]], "categories": [], "spatialReference": null, "accessInformation": null, "licenseInfo": null, "culture": "english (united states)", .......

Also, how do I find what units the web map is in? If the web map is in EPSG:3857 it will be metres I presume, but is there a way of getting that information as one can do when interrogating a map service in ArcGIS Server? I have not found it in the web map item (from content) nor the web map data (from the web map data request.) Cheers, Chris

Hi Katie, Thanks for the reply. I am fine with the Web Map being EPSG:3857 but I was wondering what the extent CRS is in the content response json as per the bold json snippet below. I could not find anywhere that says what it is. I assume EPSG:4326, but I need to know definitively. "extent": [[105.533276992, -43.6430919145], [159.105442464, -9.23004701800001]] Cheers, Chris
