Mysterious Service Area Polygon Generation Result

I generated network buffers of quarter mile, half mile, and one mile distance on several points and while many were fine,some are clearly wrong (see picture). The spike below is nearly 20 miles long. How can I remedy this problem?

This spike looks very simillar to a math issue we resolved as part of the 10.1 release.
If you can upgrade to 10.1 then the issue should go away.
