Spatial relationships question

I have 2 shapefiles, a polygon and a point set.

I would like to see if the proximity of a point to the polygon has any effect on a variable in the point dataset.

The polygon is park space and the points are flood damaged homes, and the variable is building damage.

I've searched through the help database and can't seem to find a tool that would assess this relationship.

My knowledge of GIS stops right when it starts getting into analysis and statistics unfortunately so any help would be appreciated. also I can't code.

Thanks!

Hi Kevin.

I would use the Near tool or a spatial join to add a variable to your points indicating the distance to the park, then run the Ordinary Least Squares tool to determine whether there's a relationship between distance and property damage.

The spatial statistics help and seminars (including the recent one) will be of use to you in understanding how to use and interpret the results of the OLS tool to determine whether the variables are related.

I know that's a short reply but I hope it helps.
