Problem uploading shp file

I am trying to upload a zipped shapefile but the import window says "Importing laye" forever but the file never uploads.  I never get any error window.

the file has less than 1000 features and is 4MB in size.

Any ideas?  Has anyone else had this problem?

I have uploaded 2 similar shapefiles with no problems.

4 mb is actually quite large. The feature limitation is an approximation. If the data is line or polygon data and has lots of vertices, it can easily surpass the browser's ability to draw the layer. Here's a related post with more information:

What browser are you using?
Can you share the shapefile here?
