Publishing Customized Web App on the Organization server

How do I get one of the configurable web app templates and change the code and publish it back on the ArcGIS.com organization server? I don't understand why I can't configure the app myself and then publish it like I can just with the regular web apps without configuring. Sorry if this has been covered.

You can download the template and modify the code. However, you then need to host the template yourself on your own web server. You can still reference it as a template (as part of your organization through a subscription), but the template will run from your web server.
