Dear All,

v. ArcGIS 9.3

I would like to know what is the difference between the standard deviation in the attribute (Right click on the attribute name -> Statistics) and the standard deviation from the layer properties (Properties -> Symbology -> Classified -> Choose Field Value -> Classify -> Classification Statistics)

So if one asks me to give the standard deviation, let's say of my temperature data (raster), which one should I provide?

Thank you,

Sypou

I would first confirm that there are no NoData values in the field, then use the field statistics option.  You should also note that the population standard deviation is returned and not a sample standard deviation.  Should you require other statistical parameters, and you are using ArcGIS 10, then see

after querying for valid data entries.
