Edit Widget Autopopulate

I am designing an application using the Edit Widget. One of the fields i want to be automatically populated using a webservice. Is it possible to tell the widget to populate an attribute field in such a way?

Looking to do the same thing with area calculations. basically when a polygon edit is made and saved i would like my acres attribute to update. thinking to use a geoprocessing service but i would imagine there is a better solution. thannsk in advance for any thoughts.

Best way i have found and seen folks using is to use the 'onBeforeApplyEdits' function
