GeoEvent Data Store Unable To Register AGOL Connection

On GeoEvent Server 10.6.x, I am unable to register connections to AGOL servers.  This was working in 10.3, which is still running on a different machine (until the TLS protocol change, that is, but hence the upgrade to 10.6).

The process I'm using is:

  1. Click 'Register ArcGIS Server'
  2. Name the connection
  3. Enter my Esri credentials
  4. Click 'Register'

The error I receive is 'Unable to generate token: invalid username and password.' However, this can't be the case, as I can log in to my organization using the same credentials.

Hi Konrad Hughes

Try matching the letter case of how your username appears in your ArcGIS Online organization. GeoEvent is case sensitive when it comes to providing credentials for registered Servers/Portals/AGOL orgs.

For example, if your username in AGOL shows as ArcGIS2019, using arcgis2019 when registering the data store in GeoEvent will not work.

Hope this helps!

Daniel,

I've re-registered with matching letter case for my username, and I'm still receiving the error.

Hi Konrad,

I have seen this happening before where we get 'Unable to generate token: invalid username and password.' even when using the correct case-sensitive credentials. The issue might be resolved after whitelisting the following ArcGIS Online domains in your network. Some organizations prefer to filter what domains are allowed for their organizations. Get in touch with your IT and they can help you with this.

If it is still not working, please check what the GeoEvent log says or contact Esri Technical Support @ (888) 377-4575.
