Features to JSON Error 999999

So many errors with this tool. Sometimes simply copying the feature first fixes it. The error seems to occur randomly and these are so hard to pin down. This happens in both ArcGIS Desktop and ArcGIS Pro. These features are stored in a feature dataset. They are polygon features. If anyone has ideas on how to pin this issue down please let me know. For now I might just use esri2open instead (GitHub - project-open-data/esri2open: this repo is an ESRI toolbox and tool(s) that export ESRI Feature Classes to open … )...wait...ArcGIS Desktop just crashed when trying to load the esri2open tool into my model. I would much rather use the built in tools but I am spending too much time trying to track this issue down.

Some of my ideas on this issue -

Is it related to multipart features?

Does it have an issue with extremely small polygons?

Something to do with starting with a feature stored inside a feature dataset?

Exporting to a shapefile first has fixed the issue for at least one feature.
