Usage not reported for non hosted items?

I have some hosted and non-hosted Map Image Layers.  The non-hosted items come from our own ArcGIS server.

When looking at the Usage for these items in AGOL, only the hosted items are reporting any views.  Is this data not available for items that are not hosted by AGOL?

doug pare‌,

The views in listed in the item details page are specific to the item object being accessed or opened in the map viewer. going to this Item page would count as 1: https://onlineshowcase.maps.arcgis.com/home/item.html?id=2cd0565c47934243a434c411d36373b4

Or specifically opening the item from the item page in the map viewer will also count as one.

Requests and queries to the service from created web maps or apps won't be tracked for loading, panning and zooming through the usage tab.

If you want to track the actual usage and number of requests to your service,  check your server statistics for more detailed information:

It should count views for nonhosted items. Here is the documentation:

"Views refers to the number of times the item has been viewed or opened. For maps, scenes, nonhosted layers, and web apps, the view count is increased by one when you open the item page or open the item in Map Viewer. For example, if you opened the item page for a map image layer and clicked Open in Map Viewer, the count would increase by two.

From ESRI Tech support -

"Requests for data downloads from nonhosted layers will not be registered in AGOL usage.  Neither will opening the item detail page."

There might be a way to do this with Google Analytics (according to ESRI), but I have not checked that out yet.

Hi Doug,

There are some different ways that views are calculated depending on which client (ArcGIS Online or Open Data) are accessing the non-hosted service. This is accessible in ArcGIS Online if the service is hosted with ArcGIS Online. If you are looking for fine usage details on the service, check the server statistics.

You can configure your Open Data site to use google analytics to track events that originate from your open data site:

Configure your Hub site—ArcGIS Hub | ArcGIS

Please note that this information is only tracking interactions through the Open Data site, whereas the server statisitics will show you the statistics of the actual service.

Thanks,

-Kelly
