How do you specify a portal URL if you are just using your ArcGIS for Developers account?

Under Specify Your Portal URL it says:

Specify the URL for the ArcGIS Online organization or Portal for ArcGIS account that you want Web AppBuilder to access. To use Web AppBuilder, you must have an ArcGIS Online organization account, a Portal for ArcGIS account, or an ArcGIS for Developers account

Hi,

You will need to specify the URL to your organizational account's portal, not the ArcGIS for Developers URL.

This is something you defined during the initial set up of your developer account or ArcGIS for Personal Use account.

An appropriate URL would have the following structure :

https://myportal.maps.arcgis.com

where  "myportal" would be unique to you or your organization.

That makes sense. I joined a new organization and probably need to set up a new account.

You really can't use WAB without a portal or ArcGIS online organization account then right?

Yes, Web AppBuilder requires an ArcGIS Online organizational account.

I don't know if options for authentication have changed since, but the above isn't true. 

You can log into arcgis.com with your developer account and you will be redirected to your personal "organisation" with a URL that can be used to authenticate WAB DE e.g. https://fhwockdkghrk.maps.arcgis.com/home/

You can then add a new application for oAuth at https://developers.arcgis.com/applications/ and use the Client ID as the application ID.
