Hello all,

I'm trying to set up a composite locator in 9.3. I want to create a composite geocode service using 2 different kinds: a US streets that has address ranges along the lines and then second, I would like the geocode service to then check a city address point layer that has the addresses in fields like AddressNum, StreetName etc. I don't see how it is possible to set up a composite using 2 different types like this. I am using this to help me: http://webhelp.esri.com/arcgisdeskto...ddress_locator

I'm struggling with the part where I have to specify the input address fields and then map the fields to the participating locator. One of them has fields like RTAddress, RFAddress, LTAddress, LFAddress and the other point layer has HouseNum, StreetName. So what do I need to list here?

I appreciate any help,

Hi Andrea,

You should select a locator style for a single locator, based on the reference data for that locator. http://webhelp.esri.com/arcgisdesktop/9.3/index.cfm?TopicName=Commonly_used_address_locator_styles is a good reference for this.

So if your reference data has house number ranges, you could select locator style "US Streets" and than specify fields for left/right-side from/to house numbers. And if your second reference data has address points, you could select locator style "US One Address" for you second locator, mapping individual fields for street name, house number, etc.

Once you have the individual single locators, you can create a composite locator, referring to both of these single locators. (http://webhelp.esri.com/arcgisdesktop/9.3/index.cfm?TopicName=Building_a_composite_address_locator)

Good luck !

Ok, thanks for the reply. It still makes no sense though. But I saw this old forum: http://forums.esri.com/Thread.asp?c=93&f=1113&t=238934&mc=6#msgid733171 where at the bottom the guy says to just put in "ADDRESS" and map to that in the drop down. I tried that and it works.  I still don't really understand but as long as it works, that's all I care.

Thanks,
