Hi,

Hopefully a pretty straightforward one...

There are two issues really.
First is described in point 6. where i was unable to uncheck the 'Feature Access' option, and only publish a map service, is this how locally saved point feature classes work?

Second, is how do i register locally saved feature class. Saved in c:\TestData\TestData.gdb? I can save and register the folder location OK, but having no database platform such as SQL Server installed - how can this step be performed?
Can you help me with what am i missing from the install guide?

1. Installed and licensed ArcGIS Server 10.1 (windows) OK.
2. Login to ArcGIS Server Manager OK.
3. ArcMap 10.1 Desktop create a simple point layer held in locally saved feature class, within a file geodatabase OK.
4. ArcMap Admin connection to Server OK.
5. Publish via File > Save As...Service throws error based on the fact that the layer's data source must be registered.
6. Understand that Feature Services must be registered with server, so try to uncheck the 'Feature Access' option but this is not possible (going back to step 5. and within the Publish > Capabilities window see pic1.png)

I have not installed webadaptor or SDE on my local machine...yet.

Look forward to hearing from you.

Regards,
Caroline

I'm having the exact same issue...

- Only the Feature Access is showing up under Capabilities in the Service Editor and it cannot be unchecked.

Just wondering if you rebooted the Desktop or Server? Or are you running both on the same machine... I have tried rebooting both and have had no success. If you could provide more detail about your solution, it would be very much appreciated.

Thanks!

When only feature access capabilities are available in the service editor, it's because ArcGIS Server is authorized with a basic license. A standard or advanced license is required to have more capabilities. You can verify this by logging into ArcGIS Server Manager > Site > Software Authorization. If your license level says Basic, this is the issue. See if you have a different license level that you can reauthorize with in the customer care portal.

In regards to registering your data, if it is a file geodatabase and not an SDE geodatabase, you would register the folder. Registering a database applies specifically to SDE geodatabases.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the useful information.

Here is the link to the ESRI "ArcGIS 10.1 for Server Functionality Matrix":

On page 2 of the document is a table.  The information is that table is, IMHO, inconsistent with that ESRI actually does.  In paticular, the table indicates that Basic include "GIS Web Services".  Looks to me like you only get the feature service and no ability to extend these with an SOE.
