Hello,

I am a student working on a GIS project at Minnesota State University. I want to do a flood inundation map of the Minneapolis metro area. However, I am unsure of all the data I will need. I have a DEM and various vector files with rivers, roads, etc. So, can anyone help with telling me what data I will need? Thanks!

Are you wanting to make a map showing the flood zones or create the flood zones?

Those are two VERY different tasks.  One requires a fleet of hydrologists and engineers, while the other, downloading some data from FEMA.

I want to show the flood zones and then provide some analysis such as damage costs, area underwater...

You will want to check out FEMA's Hazus software for ArcGIS
This is exactly what it does.

I appreciate your help, but I'm not looking for software, I am trying to figure out what data I need.

This depends on the level of analysis you want/need to do.

I have provided the link to the flood data above.
If this is a class project, then I suspect all you will be doing is intersecting buildings/block with the zone boundaries.
