If you set the version in the newly-created SDE connection file, all of the tables and feature classes you edit using that connection file should honor the specified version. I'm not sure why it would edit the DEFAULT version if you're providing a valid version name. It could be a bug at 10.0 but I'm not sure. Do some searching online for any related bugs that might already be know. Otherwise, I'd recommend opening a support ticket with Esri. Sorry I couldn't help!

Yes, that is basically what I was referring to. But since you would be looping through each version, the edits would be performed in all versions that you're looping through not just one. Is that not your goal based on what you wrote? Another possibility is to forget changing the version and instead simply deleting and re-creating the SDE connection file with the version you want as a parameter. You can do that in arcpy too. Either way, you will need to loop through your versions to make the same edits in all of them.

As an additional suggestion (which is something fairly easy and quick to try), it might be good to review your grid sizes for the contour feature class's spatial index. In general, I have found that setting grid 1 to 1000 is good start and setting grid 2 to 3x the size of grid 1 is also a good start (in this case, grid 2 would become 3000 since grid 1 would be 1000) for a line feature class like this. Grid 3 can be left at 0 for the time being. Give it a try and see what happens when rendering the feature class.

So it sounds like you have Office 2003 installed but are wanting to connect to 2007 XLSX documents via ArcGIS Desktop. Follow the steps sequentially below and let me know if this works: From what you wrote, I believe you may have already installed the 2007 Office System Driver: Data Connectivity Components located here: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=23734 If so, please also install the patch below so that the components above behave correctly: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=E93AB1BE-ADE6-4FF8-8637-DBD3EBE3C5C5&displaylang=en Next, please install the service pack update for the patch available here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=6f4edeed-d83f-4c31-ae67-458ae365d420

Right, I'm not sure that you can change versions ON the actual table view and feature layer. From the looks of your code, why not set the version when making the initial connection? In other words, as an alternative you may be able to edit the .SDE connection file using arcpy, specifically the Transactional Version part of the connection side. If the Transactional Version is a variable, you could use that variable in a For or While loop so that you can iterate through all of the versions you care about when making the edits you need.

I believe the domain values are sorted by their code rather than their description. To change the sort order such that it displays differently within the attribute table's drop-down menu, I believe you would need to refine which codes match up to which descriptions. This is typically done via ArcCatalog when logged in as an administrator such as the SDE user. Once connected, right click the geodatabase and then choose Properties. Select the Domains tab and then select the domain associated with the field in question. Toward the bottom of the dialog box, I recommend copying and pasting the various descriptions into the appropriate lines that match up with the numeric code.

If you are still having issues with deleting a geodatabase on the file system despite the fact that the .lock files no longer exist, it's possible there is still a process lock on one or more of the files within it. That being said, if you're using Windows Server 2008 / Windows 7 or later you can try one of the following methods: 1. From the Start menu, type FSMGMT.MSC, then multi-select the files you want from the GUI, then right click them and chose "Close". That method should force close the files that are technically still open due to a process lock. or 2. From a batch file, run the following (example is for a file geodatabase) to close a file named a00000225.gdbtable: cd C:\this_server\directory\subdirectory for /f "skip=4 tokens=1,2*" %%a in ('net files') do if %%b == C:\this_server\...\a00000225.gdbtable net file %%a /close You can modify the command above to loop through all of the files in the file geodatabase to close them all rather than specify them individually, which would be tedious since there are so many. From the command prompt, type NET FILES to see what the underlined text above should contain. Remember that double percent characters are required for batch files (in other words, %% rather than %) but single percent characters are used when running the command outside of a batch script.

It is possible to delete your test version and re-create it; then try to create a third version again as you've described? Just out of curiosity, how are you connecting to the geodatabase (ArcSDE application service of direct connect)? On a second look at your screenshots, I see that your existing version in the SDE.VERSIONS table is showing a VERSION_ID of -1. I'm not sure how that can happen or why, but it doesn't seem right.

In Oracle, this should give you the list of VERSIONED object classes for a 9.3.1 geodatabase along with their respective A, D, F, and S tables: SELECT r.OWNER, r.TABLE_NAME, r.ADDS_TABLE, r.DELETES_TABLE, CASE WHEN l.LAYER_ID IS NOT NULL THEN ('F'||l.LAYER_ID) ELSE ' ' END feature_table, CASE WHEN l.LAYER_ID IS NOT NULL THEN ('S'||l.LAYER_ID) ELSE ' ' END spatial_table FROM ( SELECT OWNER, TABLE_NAME, OBJECT_FLAGS, substr('A'||registration_id,1,10) adds_table, substr('D'||registration_id,1,10) deletes_table FROM SDE.TABLE_REGISTRY WHERE OBJECT_FLAGS IN ('11', '15', '16399', '114693') AND OWNER IN ('[schema you care about]') ORDER BY OWNER, TABLE_NAME) r LEFT JOIN SDE.LAYERS l ON l.OWNER = r.owner AND l.TABLE_NAME = r.TABLE_NAME;

Since your table is already populated, I would recommend considering the Table to Relationship Class tool (http://resources.arcgis.com/en/help/main/10.1/index.html#//0017000000mp000000) to achieve what you are describing. The tool itself should allow you to do what you are hoping to do without so much manual labor. It's also possible that the tool could be better served in a custom Python script depending on your specific needs.

Which version of ArcGIS Desktop are you using? If you really did create a personal geodatabase, it's possible that it was created under your user profile (assuming you are using Windows) if you accepted the default settings when creating it to begin with. That being said, do you have a saved MXD with the layers you described in ArcMap? If so, you can right click on one of the layers to get its properties and use the Source tab to identify the location of the geodatabase.

When modifying the PATH variable upon installing the 32-bit and the 64-bit Oracle clients, the 64-bit client must be listed first followed by the 32-bit client (source: http://resources.arcgis.com/en/help/main/10.2/index.html#//015400000617000000). Reversing the order of these in the PATH will result in connectivity problems.

When you say that it was working for a while and then suddenly started failing, I think the natural question becomes: "what has changed?". Can you think of anything that may have changed on your server(s) or geodatabases themselves? Are you certain that both the parent and child are still registered as replicas? How are you performing synchronization; connected or disconnected? Are the replicas' parent versions protected or private or public? Has anyone directly edited the child replica?

I think your best bet, if you are intending to actually copy the entire physical SQL Server Express database from one server to another, is to do this using RDBMS tools. Alternatively, if you have an empty SQL Server Express database that already exists on another server and you're looking to simply import your GIS data, just make sure it contains the SDE tables and then use either a GP tool or a manual copy/paste from ArcCatalog. The Import, Feature Class to Feature Class, or Feature Class to Geodatabase tools are all potential solutions depending on what you are trying to achieve.
