Yousra, Open SQL Server management Studio--> Connect to the instance-->Expand the concerned Database-->Expand tables--> Look for a table named Server_config--> R-click on that and 'Select Top 1000 Rows'--> Check the parameter "AUTH_KEY" if the license string starts with: 1)sdepersonal......--> its a sde personal geodatabase (free with ArcGIS Desktop and has a connection limit of 3 users at a time) 2)sdeworkgroup....--> its a sde workgroup geodatabase 3)arcsdeserver.....--> its a sde enterprise geodatabase My guess, you are using the SDE Personal and thus observing this limitation.

Jason, The default storage type changed to GEOMETRY starting from 10.1, so you may not be observing the same behaviour in the new geodatabase. I assume, that the storage type being used in your 9.3.1 sde gdb was SDEBinary. Even when you upgraded the sde gdb to 10.2.1, it remained as SDEBinary(as expected and as designed).

Angela, Can you please try a OLEDB connection and check whether that gives you the same issue. Adding OLE DB connections to databases: http://resources.arcgis.com/en/help/main/10.2/index.html#//006600000452000000

More importantly.... Are you observing the issue on both the servers? You didn't mention that in either of the posts. Also are you observing this issue with any geodatabase or just that one?

No, that is not the way for an effective compress. You need to make sure that none of the editors are editing the data while you are running the compress. I'll suggest that make sure no other users are connected to the Geodatabase when the compress is being run. Then check whether the delta tables are flushed out to the base table or not. However you did not mention how the data is published( map service, feature service, etc). Just for testing, stop the Services as well and run the compress. You may be observing a partial compress and hence see some records staying back in the delta tables.have a look at the below link on how to achieve a full compress: http://resources.arcgis.com/en/help/main/10.1/index.html#//003n000000s5000000

Tim, My suggestion.... If you still are not sure which one to use and how to implement these.... Have a word with the ESRI Tech-Support. Maybe they can offer a solution as per your requirement. Just a suggestion.

Yup, that was a mistake. The supported Base build should have been Oracle 10.2.0.3. Thanks for pointing that out Vince.

Giuseppe, Per Esri Supported Environment Policy, ESRI will continue to support environments if they meet or exceed the base build environment and that environment is known to not fail. Hence oracle 10g R2 (64-bit) 10.2.0.4 is supported as the base build 10.2.0.1 is supported, with the release of ArcSDE 10.1. Non-certification of an environment does not necessarily mean it is not supported. That environment is supported if it meets or exceeds the base build environment and that environment is known to not fail. Environments that are known to not work are usually documented on the product support page as soon as that information is available. You don't need an ArcSDE Service to edit DBTUNE table. You can do that using a Direct Connect as well. However, as Vince suggested "64-bit binary requires a 64-bit client install". So you need to install Oracle Client 64-Bit and then run the necessary command to alter the default geometry storage. Example: C:\Windows\System32>sdedbtune -o alter -k DEFAULTS -P GEOMETRY_STORAGE -v "SDELOB" -u sde -p sde -i sde: oracle11g:gdb102 -N ArcSDE 10.1 Attribute Administration Utility ----------------------------------------------------- Successfully altered dbtune data. Note: the gdb102 mentioned in the '-i' parameter is the Oracle_net_service created using Oracle 64-Bit Client. Hope this helps!

Tim, According to me, the most convenient way of dealing with this scenario would be to use a common "database authenticated Login" to load/create new data and then granting sufficient permissions/privileges to individual users to edit the data. This way, even if an user leaves the job, just deleting their Login would be sufficient and not affect the data in any way directly!

Ed, If you are still interested in trying, you can try the "Export XML Workspace Document" tool. It maintains the geometric networks, topologies, relationship classes, etc as well.
