Build scenarios for these are currently being evaluated. There are still things that need to be tested. Even when using ES6 or TS, it still would need to be transpiled to AMD for use with the Dojo loader and loader plugins. There is already a system-js loader that will work with Angular 2 and other systemjs based frameworks.

Ideally, you'd want to use OAuth or a Proxy to manage this for you. If you really want to manage this, you can try using the IdentityManager.registerToken() method to register the token with the IdentityManager to it is available for future requests. Provide it with an object as specified and that should work. You could also use the IdentityManager.generateToken() method to help you create the token.

We should all be doing unit testing. I don't do as much as I should, and I'm always striving to do more. Intern is a JavaScript testing framework from the folks at SitePen that also work on the Dojo Toolkit. It's a pretty powerful testing framework that can also integrate with cloud-based browser testing solutions. Hope you enjoy this video and you can find more geodev tips and tricks at my blog!

You'd still need to have both routes, but then you'd need some other data to measure against. Something like maybe sidewalks, street lights, maybe crime reports. Then you could use the geometry engine to find which datasets impact which routes and determine a way to weight those values to determine a level of "dangerousness". It's not specifically built into the API to do this, but the tools to accomplish this are there. It's just about putting them together.

The View doesn't have a mouseover event at this time. You could try listening for mouseover on the View container.

I finally found some time recently to update the Yeoman generator for ArcGIS JS Apps to output a starter app for 4.0 as well as an option for Sass. You can learn more about Yeoman here. The generator will create a starter app for 3.x or 4.0 and also has all the tooling to create a custom local build of your application using the Bower release of the ArcGIS JS API. It also includes some optimizations or deployment to create a single file build and copies all resources or required external files into a release folder. The starter apps are also in ES6/ES2015 and includes tooling to compile to ES5 via Babel. This update also uses a neat little app architecture for 4.0 based on using Accessor to watch for property changes in the app. For more geodev tips and tricks, check out my blog.

One of the big updates with the release of the ArcGIS API 4.0 for JavaScript may have gone a little unnoticed by some. That would be some of the major updates that were made to the documentation! Documentation is probably your main resource for learning about the JSAPI. Since it used so frequently, a lot of work went into making it easier to navigate and search for information that you would find valuable! This video is a deep dive into the new SDK and how easy it is to search and find samples and navigate the documentation. For more geodev tips and tricks, check out my blog!

For a little more clarification, you can basically write your JavaScript in ES6, using ES6 modules and more as you normally would. The key is to let the babel transpiler know you want to compile is as AMD modules, rather than commonjs. Other than that small detail, there really isn't much else to it.

Here is a sample using React with 4.0beta3, but everything is still pretty much the same. GitHub - odoe/esrijs4-vm-react: Using ErsiJS 4.0 View Models with React This is using Gulp, but not Webpack. If you really want to use Webpack, you can check out this repo for the dojo-webpack-loader GitHub - Nordth/dojo-webpack-loader: Webpack loader for Dojo Toolkit 1.x I haven't used it, but it might be what you're looking for.

I recently started toying around with creating different types of vector tile data, that was not related to basemap data. This includes aggregating data in ArcGIS Pro, rendering it accordingly and publishing to ArcGIS Online for consumption in web apps. You can read more about this video here. This material was covered in more detail during a couple of sessions at EsriUC 2016, and included information on how to publish buddy feature services for vector tiles so you could also get popups of the data behind the vector tiles. I don't have a timeframe for drawing capabilities in the API. Drawing and editing go hand in hand, along with some other technical pieces that need to be worked out. The Functionality Matrix is still the best resource to determine if 4.0 meets your current needs. When it comes to editing capabilities, 3.x is still the recommended option.

And to clarify on this, it is because technically you can have the same map displayed in multiple MapViews and SceneViews with different spatial references. So it is the View that defines how the map is rendered, extents, center, spatial reference and so on.
