There are several ways to add geoprocessing tools to a model, including the following: Use the ModelBuilder ribbon Drag tools from the Geoprocessing pane Drag tools from the Catalog pane or Catalog window (including your own models and scripts) The options above depend on your work and preference, but there is a better way; adding tools from within a model. To add a tool within a model, click anywhere in a Model view and start to type the name of the tool. The Add Tools To Model dialog box opens with a list of tools. The following will be listed: All system tools ModelBuilder specific tools Your model and script tools within the project Double-click a tool from the list to add it to the model, or select many tools and drag them to your model. Hello DuncanHornby, Get field value just gets the value only and not the geometry. In case where you are returning a polygon the output is empty. I don't thing we should be showing the shape in the get field value tool as a valid choice to for field to get the value from. a bug for us. You can still pass test2 to cal value tool directly as inline and then describe it and get the extent/etc from it. Hope this helps.

a is a feature class/layer/ string with path. I am describing it to get the extent like the test2 polygon in your first comment. Share your model or image of the cal val tool dialog and the workflow before and after that. If you want to get the first row value - get field value is the right tool, but why do u need the first row value and what value is it?

Hi Jamal, Thanks for your suggestion! We have this under consideration in our product plan. I agree, that Rename on the context menu would be good. We do allow the edit in place, so if you click on the name of the model in the catalog, it will allow you to go in the rename mode. The caveat is that the model should not be in the edit mode. If you are editing the model, we block the rename and force you to go through model properties to avoid in-sync errors. None-the-less an explicit Rename with enabled/disabled state would add value. We really appreciate all your feedback!

Hello Eric, We do have font manipulation such as font type, size, color, alignment on the diagram ribbon tab. Please try that. We do not have border and background colors settings right now. The labels do participate in layout and we will fix that. Thank you!

Hello, We definitely have considered this or the idea of validation on demand. Having said that, partial validation is possible for elements when the downstream tools from the selection are also included in the selection set. Which means if you select tool 2 and have 4 tools after that, validate select will be forced to validate downstream as they are dependent on what happens on tool 2. If we don't do that there are chances that the dependent tool will fail during the run which is OK, but will cost time. Can you share a snapshot of your model and if possible show me which part for your test case would make sense to validate partially? This will help us see what is important for your case. Thank You!

I hear you and see the issue DuncanHornby. Adding it to our product issues to address this and give a way to get back to the original behavior. Thanks for bringing this to our attention. Currently can you try adding full paths to your script? or add your script at the end of the model after apply symbology such that the output of apply symbology is the input to the script tool?

Currently there is no log file with the model crash. The model usually does not corrupt if a tool inside the model crashed. We have usually seen the corruptions with users moving between versions that causes disparity between tool changes that could possibly corrupt the model. If there are some cases you have seen, please do share it with us. We definitely want to fix them. Having a log file or model messages saved in such cases is a good idea (Thank you!) and we will work on it as we overhaul and redesign model messaging system. It is in our product plan for future release. Do share your ideas or concerns. Thanks!

Hi Laura, If the model fails, the errors bubble up on the scheduled tasks tab on the History pane. Is there an error that does not show up? Please can you help me with any model or repro steps that i can try? Thanks! Shitij

Hi, Let me check and reply back. Just confirming - the input path to the new feature class that you browsed too changes back to old one on reopening the tool dialog during the open session or in saved models? Possible for you to share the models and or data/dummy data/bare minimum data?
