Hi Eric, thanks for your reply. For some reasons the template works now. I was just a bit confused since the documentation pdf (page 2) says that openGL is required. Since I am using a VM I thought my problem could be related with the OpenGL issue in virtual machines. Regards Martin

Hi Eric, yesterday I started playing around with the Vehicle Commander Template from the Resources Center: http://www.arcgis.com/home/item.html?id=ae30551d12f443cb903f4829b03de315 After some adjusting at the config.xml I could start the precompiled version on my local (physical) machine and everything works well. After shipping the Demo to a virtual machine I ran into some problems. The moving position of the virtual GPS-Object is not displayed anymore in the map. Although the Runtime uses directX rendering it seems that some components use openGL rendering. Is it possible that the application uses different rendering for certain objects or layers? It would be nice if you could give some feedback about this. Regards, Martin

Hi Eric, with "attachments" I meant the 2 screenshots in my post. There you can see that the vm passed all openGL versions. Regards, Martin

Hi Eric, thank you very much for your reply. I made some investigations and came to the following information: 1. VMWare supports OpenGL at version 7.1 which I am using. => http://www.vmware.com/support/ws71/doc/releasenotes_ws71.html 2. At the Esri Support Blog there is a manual how to test the supported OpenGl versions => http://blogs.esri.com/esri/supportcenter/2012/03/15/what-version-of-opengl-do-i-have-and-do-i-have-the-latest-drivers-for-my-system/ I did this test with my physical device and the VmWare graphics device. Both passed the OpenGl Test (see Attachments for Test results from my Virtual Maschine). Hopefully esri can handle this issue soon. With kind regards Martin

Hi ArcGIS Runtime developers, since the final release of the ArcGIS Runtime for Java 1.0 I started playing around with it. Since most of our current projects still work with ArcGIS 10.0, I prefer to test it in a virtual environment for the moment. So I use a Win 7 image with VM Workstation. Unfortunately I found out that my applications do not start when using the OpenGL Rendering instead of the default DirectX settings. For some reasons the virtual graphic device seems not to be able to emulate OpenGL rendering while the DirectX also works in the virtual machine. Does anyone else get these experiences or even knows a workaround? Cheers Martin Here my code with the exception: ArcGISRuntime.setRenderEngine(RenderEngine.OpenGL); Java version : 1.7.0_02 (Oracle Corporation) amd64 Rendering engine : OpenGL java.lang.RuntimeException : OpenGL Error: This may be caused by the OpenGL drivers not being version 2.1 or higher. Hi there, ArcGIS uses two ways of label rendering: Standard Label Engine and the Maplex Label Engine. Both use the Map as central point of entrance to handle the labelling for all feature layers in the map. Is it possible to use different label engines which can work independently for a designated layer? This is of high interest when displaying dynamic data that changes frequently. The standard labelling causes a flicker effect for all labels in the entire map each time when one single layer gets refreshed. I would appreciate if someone could provide a workaround for this problem! Thank you very much in advance! Martin

Hi there, does anybody know if it is possible to use another labelling engine than standard and maplex? The thing about theses two labelling methods is that both always refresh the labels for the entire map even if only the labels for one single layer have to be redrawn. In ArcScene there is a nice function to improve the quality of your 3D raster images. In the layer properties you can set the Quality enhancement for raster images to high in order to get a better quality. The default setting is quite low. That's why many raster images look kind of rough when they are added to ArcScene. Is there any possibility to control this setting from your ArcObjects code? Right now I try to implement it with Java and would appreciate any kind of help. Cheers, Martin

Hi, I try to create polylines on a GraphicLayer in order to measure distances. As long as the Spatial Reference of my data is WGS 84 it works more or less, but when using another Spatial Reference (here Webmercator) I can create points by clicking into the Map, but the line segments get drawn at the equator. Does anyone else have the same problem? Cheers Martin

Hi, right now I am working on a small demo map viewer with the runtime. Unfortunately I have problems to create a legend / toc for the currently loaded data. I found a JLayertree.java in the samples, but this class seems not to be able to deal with group layers. Is there any agenda for a standardised legend/toc control or does anyone have a sample how to create such a GUI component? Cheers Martin

Hi, is an object model or functionality matrix for all three runtime versions available? This would be very helpful in order to distinguish between the new runtime and the ArcGis engine. Cheers, Martin

Hi esri-Team, is it possible to use runtime applications on MacOs since it is possible to design applications for iOS? Are there any constraints like the need for a .net framework in order to run a WPF application? Regards Martin

Hi Esri-Team, one of the major arguments for the ArcGIS Runtime is the fact that the end-user does not need any kind of special software or license on his/her local system. Does the end-user system require the .net-framework ( and which version)? Regards, Martin

Hi Esri-Team, one of the major arguments for the ArcGIS Runtime is the fact that the end-user does not need any kind of special software or license on his/her local system. Does this include the JRE or is this a basic requirement because you need it to run Java programs at all. Regards, Martin
