Think if figured out a workaround. If I copy my building polygones to 5 layers and assign the different scatter rules to each, 1 left, 1 right, 1 back etc. Then I can call the layer left, right etc. Then export all the point layers, that should bring up 5 layers in ArcMAP, that I could assign Raster heights to, and merge to a left, right etc. attribute in the building footprint. A long way around, but it’s going to be awesome!

Hi All, Is it possible to create new attributes for an object, and have them exported along with the file geodatabase? That would be my first question, there will lead to another. If this is possible, could I den write object attributes on a scatter inside a polygon? I got a square, and I have used the scatter function to create scatter points on the center of each line, and the total center of the polygon. Rule --> scatter(surface,1,gaussian,center,'0) { Shape } scatter(surface,1,gaussian,right,'0) { Shape } scatter(surface,1,gaussian,left,'0) { Shape } scatter(surface,1,gaussian,front,'0) { Shape } scatter(surface,1,gaussian,back,'0) { Shape } I would like to split those five points, and assign an attribute with their orientation. Those points should all have attributes from the polygon like: Building ID, so I can merge the attribute table inside ArcMAP + a new attribute field e.g. “Orientation” with the values Right,left, center and so on. By now only one scatter point get’s the object attributes; I guess that is because they are collected as one, and I’m not able to split, or assign new object attributes. So what I would like to try out with this is, to create a buffer around the points, inside ArcMAP, and collect the MEAN Lidar height to each buffer, and then be able to read the roof height on each buffer, assign that back to the building footprint, so I will get a left, right, front, back and center height, those values I can use inside a cga rule to control the roof geometry. Any ideas?

Is it possible to use the envelope? When I tried I could only angel it to the center of the building, and not away from the center. I basically would like to go nuts with the angles. Control the angles by attr like: “ different angel for each floor to the sides, but also to the back, controle the split(x) angel. Matt where are your great video with understanding the scope, A’m I remembering wrong, or are you not creating something like that? Thanks to your both, would defiantly try this out, as soon as I figure out to angel away from the center

Hi, Its likely that this issue can’t be solved, an easy way, but trying to ask anyway, maybe there are some ideas. We got a lot of data on each land registers. There could be a lot of land registers on each building footprint. Like many other contries we got a lot of buildings with many different ages with different styles built together. In our case those building are drawn together in one building polygon. That is a big mess. So we split each polygon with the land register layer. Great, know I’m able to control the rule on every land register. That would give me the variety like when you walk down an old street. But I just noticed that for some reason I got a lot of buildings, that shouldn’t be split up by the land register, since they are built in the same year, and therefor it’s the same building. This is probably a long shot but could it be possible to merge polygones together again “case” they got the date of built? The best way would probably be to create some kind of filter, before they where split up. So this is more to check out the possibilities

Hi, I’m trying to create a rule, where I can change the angle for different floors. My first issue, was actually right in the beginning, how to extrude at a building angled, with the bottom still aligned to the terrain. Matt I saw a video with you explaining the concepts of scope (I think it was) and I think that would get me at step further. I did found the thread once again, but the video link does not work anymore. What I was trying to was to use the envelope function, but I can’t get that to create a negative angle. So if the front angle was 45 degrees , the back angle should be the same, just in a negative direction. I’m attaching an image of what I’m trying to achieve. Thank you Matt. I did try any reflectivity amount. But for some reason it worked after I restarted my machine. It was probably something with my graphic card, since it was running very strange.

HI, I’m struggling a little here. I’m trying to create a building with a visibility factor, and I’m reading thru the 3D city analysis document, with gave me the idea of randomly creating points, to create the visibility analysis inside ArcScene. In the 3D city analysis doc, it describes that when exporting the model, I need to make sure that I have a feature mapping field where I could choose “One Feature Per Leaf Shape.” I don’t seem to have that function in 2014, am I right? My idea was to create points with the scatter operation, so I didn’t need to set a visibility point inside arcscene, so I would need it to export to points as well, but as this moment I can only export it as a Multipatch, which I’m not able to use with my geoprocessing tools. Am I on the right track, or is there an easier way to create those points, to create a visibility analysis?

I haven’t found a solution, on how to get basemaps into CityEngine smart! I don’t know if it’s not normal to export a basemap from ArcGIS, since I haven’t found a solution yet. What I do at this point. Create my AOI, and cut my DTM to match. Then I’m not able to cut the basemap, so I’m actually using my AOI frame, to create a screenshot. That can not be the best way, and is defiantly not a great result.
