As Zach says if you publish an item as public then anyone can view it without needing to login to your Enterprise or to an AGOL account (it is the same process in AGOL). If the data needs to be kept private or on an organizational basis then you will need to set up accounts for everyone that needs to access it. I find most of what we share does not have privacy constraints so I am able to keep the need for accounts manageable. Note that all the layers in a map or app need to have the same permissions or people will get the login popup.

Update on the upgrade. So, what I ended up doing is using the snapshot taken right before the failed upgrade then, on Saturday, I uninstalled a couple of unused programs on the server machine. Once that was done, I rebooted the server then started the upgrade process. Portal took about 4.5 hours total, then maybe a half hour for the portal web adaptor uninstall and the reinstall. Server was up next and that took a bit over 2 hours total. Same for the server web adaptor as the portal web adaptor. The data store took around 1.5 hours. And walla, success. Not totally sure what the issue was with the first attempt, perhaps the Illuminati were causing solar flares or some such thing.... Anyway, thanks for the suggestions.

The Portal component took about 6 hours to complete. I am currently working with ESRI and we canceled the Server upgrade and restarted it after doing a second snapshot and reloading the .exe. I hear rumor that having a snapshot burns up RAM memory. Not sure if that is an issue since the server has dynamic memory. Antivirus is not an issue on this machine. Restoring back to the snapshot is not what I want to do but may be what needs to happen. The last upgrade went so much smoother....

I am currently upgrading our single machine deployment of ArcGIS Enterprise from 10.8.0 to 10.9.1. I was able to get through Portal, which took about 6 hours, and the portal web adaptor. Currently I am upgrading the Server and it is still validating the install 17 hours later. This seems excessive. Anyone else have it take this long? Ideas, suggestions?

Here is how I resolved my issue. I run backups of the gis network drive to an external drive fairly frequently. I copied the .aprx from the backup drive to the associated network drive folder, hit save in the ArcGis Pro project that was getting Project Save Error and it worked like a charm. Not sure why the project's .aprx disappeared in the first place - some kind of disturbance in the time space continuum I suppose.

Just had this happen after updating to 3.02. I was working on a project that was created several years ago and have been using frequently during the last couple of weeks. When I went to save it yesterday I got the attached message. I tried a save as with different name - same message. When I looked in the folder where the aprx resides there is no aprx. A file explorer search finds nothing, even though the aprx is open.... Weird.

I started playing around with Experience Builder and it is an option. My preference would to be able to embed a pdf or word document as that avoids the extra work of copying and pasting the information into the EB template. That may end up being what we do for now until a better solution presents itself. Some people use Google Docs and embed an iframe of the document. That works extremely well but again there is the potential security issues with that. Anyway, thanks for the suggestions.

Yes. I played with using Google Docs but our IT dept. is saying google docs is unsecure and our office 365 accounts don't allow us to publicly share links to, say, a pdf or word document. So, I am looking for other possible options for public viewing of a daily situation report in a storymap that is easy for the person doing the report to display.

I have a storymap that shows the current wildfire situation for our area. The emergency manager wants to have a page that shows the daily situation report. I would like to have a live feed a document that as soon as she edits it showing in the storymap. I am trying to avoid any copy and pasting or that type of thing i.e., making the workflow as simple as possibly. I am wondering if there is a method of webhooking a word document or some such thing or embedding a link via an iframe. Or, perhaps, there is a better method? Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thanks. We are using Microsoft sql server and its at 64 bit. I am not sure what you mean when you say the actual path and use the C:\ drive prompt. This is not something I have ran across before. In the past it was as easy as copying and pasting the path from ArcCatalog..... Thanks again.

I am trying to upgrade a script I use in ArcMap to ArcGIS Pro. I am not able to get it to recognize the the path to our sql server which houses the feature class I want to access. The script work fine in ArcGIS Map but I get errors when trying in ArcGIS Pro. This is a script that will have multiple lines but the first step is creating problems. Also, I ran the export tool on the feature class in pro and it worked fine. I then copied the snippet from the results and pasted it into the script (using PyCharm). Here is the script as it stands so far: import arcpy try: in_table = r'Database Connections\GIS Update.sde\GIS_update.dbo.Orion_Taxlots\GIS_update.dbo.Orion_Taxlots' in_data = r'Database Connections\JOCO B Marial.sde\jocoB_Production.DBO.POLY\jocoB_Production.DBO.poly_gon' out_path = r"C:\GIS\Substage" out_shp = "jocoB_Production_DBO_poly_gon.shp" TL = r"C:\GIS\Substage\jocoB_Production_DBO_poly_gon.shp" Out_Taxlots = "C:\\GIS\\Substage\\Taxlots.shp" # Step 1 jocoB poly_gon copied to C:\GIS\Substage arcpy.FeatureClassToShapefile_conversion(in_data, out_path) print("Step 1 complete") # Step 2 Dissolve TL.shp on MNX as Taxlots.shp arcpy.Dissolve_management(in_features=TL, out_feature_class=Out_Taxlots, dissolve_field="MNX",statistics_fields="#", multi_part="MULTI_PART", unsplit_lines="DISSOLVE_LINES") print("Step 2 complete: dissolved TL.shp on MNX, save as Taxlots.shp") except Exception as e: print("Error: " + e.args[0])

Recently I experienced problems overwriting a Taxlot API rest service. I kept getting the error: unable to retrieve information for existing item when trying to overwrite map service. However, while the ESRI support person was looking into possible reasons that this particular layer was not getting published (others worked fine) I, using ArcGIS Pro, switched to AGOL from our Portal and tried to overwrite the ArcGIS Online hosted taxlot layer. The error that I got then was that I could not proceed because there was a join on the layer. Of course, overwriting the service in Portal worked fine after removing the join. It would be nice if the error message when overwriting a service in portal would also say that there was a join and thus can’t proceed rather than the generic message that was given. Just a suggestion. Thanks

Thanks for your response. We have been doing the steps outlined in link. Even though it says nothing needs to be uninstalled the web adapters actually need to be uninstalled and reinstalled which, for some reason, seems to also remove content folders. We just rolled it back and are looking at giving it another shot.

It took about 3 hours for Portal to upgrade and I am wondering if this is normal. Will the server and datastore be similar? What should I expect? What have other people experienced in this regard?
