Hello, I am using ArcMap 10.4.1. I am still reviewing the basics of map projections and came across the concept of planar projections not fully touching at edges, due to distortion, if for example, the globe was projected using a planar stereographic type Planar Projection. However, I it seems to me that none of the State Plane zones would likely "stich" together seamlessly at the edges either. But I also thought one of the advantages of the State Plane System was that it offered continuity between large areas that are projected. So I have to ask, do the State Plane projections between states touch seamlessly at edges, or can one expect a distorted miss-alignment along zone edges ?

Dan, Thanks again for your feedback. My problem is trying to use the right software for the job. I had no idea that the AutoCAD environment, for example, is built off a flat "grid" system and cannot interpret correctly a 3d geographic coordinate system. The subject of software capability is very confusing, especially when the developer includes button picks that suggest functionality that is not really there. I am hoping to confirm that ArcMap is not developed on a similar flat grid environment and really does interpret the 3d geographic coordinate systems as expected.

Hello, I am using ArcMap 10.4.1. I have been learning about the subject of coordinate system concepts such as datums, transformations, projections, maps, grid, ground, etc. While developing practical exercises for myself, I have come to the realization that ArcMap may be my only resource for properly transforming and projecting between different coordinate systems. For example, I learned that AutoCAD does not really think in 3D such as the case with interpreting a true geographic coordinate system. In fact, the world WGS84 datum would be visualized in AutoCAD as a flat plane, even though it is not projected. So locating points and transforming, for example, between a State Plane coordinate and WGS84 is not possible. However, I assume the ArcMap software is not working in a "flat" environment like AutoCAD, and can correctly interpret between a 3D Geographic coordinate system and a flat State Plane projected coordinate system ?

Hello, I am using ArcMap 10.4.1. I need to export contours using Data->Export, and adjusting settings to limit data to view. However, the data is not clipped to the view extent a I would expect. Is there a way to limit exported data to just a limited area ?

Hello, I am using ArcMap 10.4.1. I want to manually calculate the transformation (WKID 1515) using the values from the Transformation Tables. I am familiar with matrices and can easily apply the 3 or 7 parameter method. I believe what ESRI is describing as the "Position Vector" method would use the matrices formulation. However, the WKID 1515 is only given as a "Coordinate Frame" method. Can I assume the dx, dy, dz...values tabulated for the Coordinate Frame method could also be used in the matrices formulation to solve the transformation ? If not, does ESRI have the tabulated parameters for the other methods ?

Hello, I am using ArcMap 10.4.1, reviewing Datum Transformation Tables. When it is said that accuracy for a given Transformation is 1m or 100m, is this unit of accuracy referring to accuracy along the XYZ axis when computing XYZ or does it mean that the end result XYZ position falls anywhere within a radial area of 1m ?

Hello, I am using ArcMap 10.4.1. I have been reviewing Transformations and Projections for certain coordinate changes and came across some information in an article that reads: "When using the Project Tool, the transformation method applied is recorded in the metadata". I have tried to find this Metadata that describes the Transformation and/or Projection performed on my data as a check. Is there a button click to get access to this information ?

Hello, I am working with ArcMap 10.4.1. I came across an ESRI article that is of interest but the link no longer works. Is it possible to get a current link for this document ? The non working document link is shown below. Thanks in advance for your help!
