Thanks for the reply but this is worse than having to publish an MXD per group layer. Honestly ESRI needs to come out with a solution for this because I've read in various threads that tons of users are having issues with this. Being able to organize the entire TOC in Portal (regardless of how many services) is really mandatory for so many people. I was able to do this in Geocortex so why can't Portal evolve?

in Portal for ArcGIS 10.5 under Map, I can obviously add layers from my content or the web etc. when I add a MapService that’s in my contents , I get a group layer titled after my ArcGIS server service that I can rename if I choose. What if I want to remove that group title and Just have the sub layers in my Portal Map?? I really need this because otherwise I’m having to publish a service for every group I need in the Map. Thanks

You have every base covered Robert. Have you thought about writing a book on custom widgets at all? ESRI really doesn’t haven’t a lot out there and just the basics you have to offer would be a wealth of knowledge for most GIS developers. Thanks again Robert

Hopefully Robert gets this but if anyone else can shed some light, I'd be delighted. The eSearch widget is Fantastic! However if I wanted to alter it to so that there is just one tab that allows users to select a feature and buffer by any distance, what steps do you recommend? In short, just a form with ability to use the rectangle selection and buffer by any distance. Thank you in advance!

im taking over someone else’s portal and I’m trying to update a web layer inside a web app builder app for portal 10.5 and server 10.5 and after a few failed attempts I think I have the web app updated but now I’m wondering if other apps were using that layer. ArcGIS server is reporting this error below. How can I fix this issue? Thanks for any advice. SEVERE @ 2018-01-15 17:28:58: Failed to return the service configuration 'Wetlands.MapServer'. Hi Derek, thanks for the response. As I eluded to, I'm totally aware that Portal's permissions will over take AGS's so based on your response about printing I'm guessing that you are referring to two ArcGIS server's. Because your print example refers to a "secured" service which you cannot do when you federate AGS from Portal. This is an enormous cost for an extra license of AGS but will try. Thanks

I'm using ArcGIS Server 10.5 with secured services and trying to federate it (and hosted server) with Portal 10.5. Whenever I do, portals security takes over and my services are no longer secured. Should I be able to federate ArcGIS server (hosted server so users can publish in portal to it) while still keeping some services secured in AGS? Reason I was hoping this was possible is because I've read that printing is possible as long as a custom print service (embedded login credentials) is published and the web app has secured services.

Ho Joel, Yes I noticed that y'all had the functionality to drag and drop the stops around in the list which is neat but not always accurate. Putting the office location at the end and beginning does indeed disable the optimization but it won't always be an optimal route by doing that manually. at any case, the UI update you mentioned would in fact work and be very handy for certain users. Thanks for passing along the URL parameter passing to Navigator, I'm sure I can utilize that eventually

Hi Joel, The stops are created in Navigator as the user chooses an asset name from the search. Navigator is optimizing the shortest route correctly by putting in the office location as the first and second stop but it's almost like it needs just an extra logic statement that says if the user puts in the same stop twice then they must be trying to end their route back at that stop. Thoughts?

For example i use the office, 4 stops, and want to end back at the office. Optimization always puts the office as the first and second stops. Any way to fix that? Thanks

Hi Heather, Email has been sent to Explorer4Arcgis@esri.com. I'll keep you posted once I get Navigator licensed in our Portal. Maybe once that is enabled, I might be able to connect using the Navigator app.
